Description

Netcore Games is an independent game studio made up entirely of Nicolas Casalini, in collaboration with freelance artist Assen Kanev. Netcore Games is committed to building games that last: Tales of Maj'Eyal, while already very successful and selling, keeps getting new free updates. Happy players makes for happy developers!

History

How it all started

It all began in late November 2009 when Nicolas decided to reboot his previous roguelike game, Tales of Middle-Earth 2. With no code and no assets he set out to make the game he wanted to play and released a few months later the first beta. It quickly became more and more famous in the, by then, fairly small roguelike circles and by the end of the year 2010 won the Roguelike of the Year award.

Building up steam

Over the years Tales of Maj'Eyal began to take a huge part of Nicolas' time but he felt it was worth it.Many new players where coming to the game and money was starting to come, allowing him to pay the artists that had worked for free, out of love of the game. Development continued at a great pace until the game was deemed ready for a 1.0 tag on the very last day of year 2012.

Getting commercial

With development still going strong, the 1.0 release had attracted the attention of gaming sites and reviewers and soon online stores and bundles were asking to have Tales of Maj'Eyal. This was all new and frightening for Nicolas, who considered it a hobby project, but he went on and published it, bundled it and attracted even more players. In early November 2013 the big news hit: the game had been greenlit for Steam, the biggest of all online stores. One month later it was up on the virtual shelf!

The actual birth of Netcore Games

Netcore Games itself was only created in 2014 as a need to have a true legal entity to handle business with online stores and to have a more stable ground to pay the artists for their amazing work. While it is still a one man boat, freelance artist Assen Kanev is an integral part of that boat. Development of the game continued as ever in 2014, with the release of many free updates but also of the first paid expansion to the game: Ashes of Urh'Rok in late October which was an immediate buy for many of the fans.
