Description
An Alchemist is a manipulator of materials using magic.
They do not use the forbidden arcane arts practised by the mages of old - such perverters of nature have been shunned or actively hunted down since the Spellblaze.

Alchemists can transmute gems to bring forth elemental effects, turning them into balls of fire, torrents of acid, and other effects. They can also reinforce armour with magical effects using gems, and channel arcane staffs to produce bolts of energy.

Though normally physically weak, most alchemists are accompanied by magical golems which they construct and use as bodyguards. These golems are enslaved to their master's will, and can grow in power as their master advances through the arts.

Their most important stats are: Magic and Constitution
Strategy
Alchemist Gems
One of the unique aspects to the Alchemist is the use of alchemist gems. Alchemist gems are items that go to your quiver, and work as a resource for many of your skills. Alchemist gems are created from regular gems by the use of the Create Alchemist Gems skill. Converting a single gem will net you approximately 40~60 alchemist gems. The alchemist gems have special effects when used for your throw bomb skill, depending on the gems used. You can see the different effects they can have on the gems page. Note that alchemist gems sell for 0.1 gold apiece. Most items you don't require will be worth more as either gems or even more likely a bundle of alchemist gems if you gain the necessary general skill to convert items to gems.

General Tips
The alchemist is a mage that manipulates gems and has a golem for a companion.

Two general game-play strategies both involve maxing the first 4 bomb skills, making for a super bomb. Then eschewing the infusion skills (except to put 1 point in acid to unlock a non-fire damage bomb), you can either work to buff your golem to the max with your abilities, or you can buff yourself with fire alchemy skills. If you plan on buffing your golem after maxing out your bomb skills, you may find it helpful to pour your class points into Supercharge Golem, Golem Portal and Runic Golem.

Supercharge Golem is basically a Refit Golem skill that revives your golem instantly with (at max level) enough life and temporary regeneration to fully recover from death. Even better, it doesn't cost the full 15 gems that Refit Golem requires to resurrect your golem. It also buffs the golem's damage temporarily; however, the most important part of the skill is the insta-revive - this lets you resurrect your golem on the fly during a boss fight rather than in between battles. If you're in a fight, don't cast Supercharge Golem if your golem is about to die. It won't get the free revive and will probably die soon anyway regardless of its regeneration.

Golem Portal seems like a useless skill, but it can be a life-saver at times. At max level, it has a 100% chance to make every enemy targeting you retarget your golem. When you're in a big fight surrounded by enemies, the temporary respite could give you enough turns to bring a shielding rune or Supercharge Golem out of cooldown. Just beware that some enemies have AoE attacks that may hit you and your golem regardless of whoever's being targeted.

By the time you start working on Runic Golem, you should have a few good runes on hand. Keep an eye out for Shielding Runes; even just one can increase your golem's lifespan greatly in a fight.

If you're having trouble with dungeon delving/boss encounters, you could add a Teleportation Rune to your golem. Upon entering a new level and clearing out the nearby rabble, control your golem and teleport away. Try to run into as many enemies as you can. If you can't find any enemies, cast Invoke Golem and try again. If you do find some enemies, then control will switch back to your character after some time and you will (unless your golem is quite strong) probably see your golem's HP drop quickly in no time at all. Cast Refit Golem/Supercharge Golem to bring your golem back to life. If you wait around, the enemies your golem angered will usually come to you looking for a fight. This situation could tip the tides in your favor, since you already know what the battlefield looks like. The enemies also tend to cluster themselves up when they all head for you, making it easy for you to damage the whole crowd with a well-placed bomb. Fighting bosses also tends to be a whole lot easier when you're right on the stairs in case something goes horribly wrong. If you would like to explore for longer at a risk of dying, you could let your alchemist do the exploring instead of the golem. Simply use Golem Portal after teleporting your golem away (given that there's no enemies around, of course), and when you see many enemies that are too much to handle, cast Golem Portal to end your scouting adventure. If Golem Portal is still on cooldown and you don't think you can cast it in time (the cooldown for Golem Portal is quite short though), cast Invoke Golem and try to shield yourself from the onslaught of enemies. Note that these teleport techniques, while effective, tend to explore dungeons much slower than the traditional dungeon delving methods.

Description
The ravages of the Spellblaze stretched armies thin and left many unprotected. Not everyone could afford the luxury of a weapon.

Without steel or iron, poor communities of all races turned to the strength of their own bodies for defense against the darkness.

Whether a pit-fighter, a boxer, or just an amateur practitioner, the Brawler's skills are still handy today.
Many of the Brawler's abilities will earn combo points which they can use on finishing moves that will have added effect.

The unarmed fighting styles the Brawler uses rely on maneuverability and having both hands available. As such, they cannot make use of their training wearing massive armour or while a weapon or shield is equipped.
Their most important stats are: Strength, Dexterity, and Cunning

Strategy
More mobile than traditional fighters and more durable than fragile rogues, the Brawler is an unarmed combatant with exceptional burst and sustained damage.

Pros:
* Exceptional mobility for a warrior
* Highly-synergistic Pugilism tree
* Excellent natural scaling
* Strong synergy with on-hit items
* High critical strike chance
* Kills space-time anomalies, vampire lords, and the entire Orc race with BARE HANDS

Cons:
* Limited build/playstyle options
* Equipment restrictions
* Weaker talent trees outside of Pugilism (*cough Grappling cough*)
* Bosses are immune to Instantdeath (i.e. Haymaker)
* Generalist tendencies (medium armor & medium defense) makes optimizing defenses less intuitive
* Cannot grapple large dragons, even though Celia's model makes them all look like starved halflings

No blades, no magic; Brawlers fight with their bare (er, gloved) hands, and they fight very well. Like their Marauder cousins, Str/Dex/Cun Brawlers combine the rogue's critical-prone multi-striking capabilities with the warrior's survivability. However, while Marauders leans more towards the rogue's dual-wielding playstyle, Brawlers gravitate towards the warrior's "Meat-Grinder" playstyle through their incredible natural scaling and Pugilism. Speaking of which:

Natural Scaling
Bonuses:
* +40% attack speed while unarmed
* .5 Physical Power per Level

Brawlers have neither a primary nor a secondary weapon to grant them stat-enhancing perks, so these benefits come embedded in the class itself. The 40% bonus attack speed removes the standard 20% unarmed attack speed penalty and replaces it with a 20% AS bonus (although the Disarmed effect negates this), making it essential for a class built around unarmed combat. The physical power per level serves a dual purpose: early on, it slightly improves your damage and helps your Finishing Moves (mainly Uppercut) apply their intended effects while you focus on unlocking your essential Dexterity and Cunning abilities. However, its main purpose becomes noticeable around level 25+, where the combined potential of your natural scaling, Unarmed Mastery, and strength bonuses are often just enough to trigger cross-tier effects (either Off-Balance or a straight Slow) on lesser enemies. While the effect isn't as reliable as a dedicated ability, it is essentially a free disable that procs on your basic attacks, allowing you to butcher ants, wolves, bears, and other low-quality monsters with little fear of retaliation. This ability will eventually taper off as monsters gain higher and higher physical save.

Pugilism - A Gentlemen's Art
Pugilism is the Brawler's most iconic and most important talent tree. Combined with the Brawler's natural perks, it is what allows an unarmed fighter to match and potentially exceed armed fighters in raw damage output. While there are certainly ways to build the Brawler without investing deep into the Pugilism tree, few builds synergize with the class as well as one emphasizing Pugilism, Unarmed Mastery (talent) and, to a lesser extent, Finishing Moves. Going over the abilities:

;Double Strike
:The Brawler's bread-and-butter skill with an excellent damage-per-level increase, extra point combo point at level 4, zero stamina cost, and a low cooldown that can be further reduced by Relentless Strikes and brawler's gloves/gauntlets. Eventually, you may come to think of Double Strike as being your real basic attack.

;Relentless Strikes
:This is what differentiates Pugilism from other talent trees and makes it something worth investing 16-20 points in. While its level 1 results are barely noticeable, the cooldown reduction becomes increasingly apparent with levels, bringing Double strike onto a permanent two-turn cooldown at level 4 and nearly halving the cooldowns of Spinning Backhand and Flurry of Fists at level 5. Similarly, the stamina gains from this ability will be minimal at first, but will become increasingly powerful as levels in Double Strike, Spinning Backhand and Flurry of Fists generate additional combo points.

;Spinning Backhand
:This is why the Brawler is categorized as a "mobile" fighter. With two points, Spinning Backhand's range increases to 4, allowing you to save Rush for initiations when it's truly needed. At level 5, Spinning Backhand gains a full 6 range (along with the range-influenced DPS increase), meaning that it can effectively replace Rush as the go-to "mage-bashing" tool. Finally, with maxed Relentless Strikes, this ability sits with a manageable seven turn cooldown, meaning that it can be used multiple times within a large engagement. Throw in its AoE component, and you have the Brawler's all-in-one utility slap. Consider adding a second point early, then add on remaining points once you've reached acceptable levels of your other Pugilism abilities if you desire.

;Flurry of Fists
:The Brawler's wombo combo "this thing needs to DIE" ability. Spinning Backhand into Flurry of Fists will kill most non-boss casters instantly in the first half of the game, and almost instantly thereafter depending on your opponent's resistances. At rank 4 it delivers three combo points, meaning that Spinning Backhand -> Flurry of Fists -> Any Finishing Move will deliver a four point finisher in three turns. With maxed Relentless Strikes, its hefty twenty-four turn cooldown can be brought to a semi-decent fourteen seconds. More importantly, level 5 Relentless Strikes dramatically cuts Flurry of Fists' stamina cost (with low fatigue, usually by about a 1/3rd), making for a somewhat-oxymoronic "spammable nuke."

;Striking Stance
:This isn't technically a Pugilism ability, but its relationship with Double Strike and its incredible bonuses should not go unmentioned. Striking Stance gives a sizable accuracy boost and - more importantly - an exceptional damage modifier to all striking talents, meaning all damaging talents in the Pugilism tree along with select abilities such as Counter Attack. Think of it as a powerful Dexterity-based passive that will only cancel itself if for the user activates that *other* stance.

Ah, Grappling Stance...

Grappling with Grappling Stance
Grappling is:
* Stamina-intensive
* Single-target focused with little flexibility
* Mobility-restrictive
* Size-restrictive (can't grapple Rantha)
* Unreliable (Can't silence Undead)
* Weak compared to Striking Stance (Physical Power and Physical Save? Not only are they diminishing return stats, but the Brawler gets them anyway through other means...)
* Uncomplementary to the rest of the Brawler's talents

For all intents and purposes, Grappling Stance is a disabling stance. It is meant to pin an opponent in an unfavorable position while removing their damage and escape options through silences, stuns, and dazes while reducing Accuracy, Defense, Attack Damage, and global speed. It is NOT meant to kill outright - rather, it is meant to disable an opponent while they die from other means. If you are an Oozing Horror, then you have a bevy of teammates along with your own natural secretions to make up this extra damage. However, if you are a lone Brawler, you are just that - alone - so you don't have those external options.

Simply put, Grappling is an ability better left to monsters rather than adventurers. Player characters usually have enough damage to kill enemy damage dealers outright, and if they cannot (i.e. it's a boss) they can usually teleport around and slowly whittle the boss down through hit-and-run tactics. It's not that Grappling itself is bad, it's just players have better options, especially in the early game. Adding a few points in the mid to late game may provide some situational utility, but don't postpone your core talents (Pugilism and Unarmed Mastery) for it.

Overall
The Brawler is great fit for players looking for a mobile, powerful class who can do a little bit of everything.

With their BARE HANDS.

Fisticuffs!

Notes
Noteworthy Items:
* Bloodcaller
* Spellhunt Remnants

"Don't Stop My Groove!"
* Stuns are particularly dangerous for the Brawler. Consider holding on to an Infusion:Wild (Physical) until you can level up Unflinching Resolve and/or acquire stun resistance.
* Bulwarks and Paladins are pains to deal with. Even if you have resistance/armor penetration, exercise extreme care when fighting these opponents. At higher levels, a random Assault can easily kill you if you've taken too much damage through other means.

Other Talent Trees:
* While Pugilism is a critical part of the Brawler's damage output, players still have some flexibility in what supporting trees they add afterwards. Unarmed Discipline provides some interesting utility talents and positional displacers while Dirty Fighting provides exceptional crit potential via stun lock -> Backstab-enhanced Flurry of Fists along with a speed-crushing Cripple. Experiment with both and see what combination works best for you.
Strategy
As of beta 32, Archers and Slingers are merged into a new "Archer" class. The choice of weapon specialization and stat distribution is up to you. Press q to switch between weapon sets (this costs a turn). You probably want to unlearn the auto-assigned talent in the other weapon tree, to get the class talent point back.

As of 1.0.0RC1, line of sight between characters is symmetric. If you can see it, you can shoot it. And if you can see it, it can see you (and shoot you). This gives an enormous power boost to ranged attack tactics, and makes those poor knuckle-dragging melee characters even weaker than they were before. MWA-hahaha!

 For version 1.1.0. This strategy is rather outdated! But still useful until it's replaced, take it with a grain of salt, however!

Archers are the embodiment of physical ranged damage. You'll want to keep your distance from monsters, and shoot them on sight. Your damage output is determined by Dexterity and Strength (for bows), or Dexterity and Cunning (for slings), your Physical power, your talents, and your ammo's base damage.

If this is your first time as an Archer, you need to learn how reloading works. Your quiver (or pouch) has a finite capacity for shots, but you can refill it by using the Reload talent. Once you activate Reload, you'll get back 1 unit of ammo every turn while standing still or moving around. The reloading will stop when you use any talent, including instant cast inscriptions. Higher talent levels in Bow mastery or Sling mastery will increase the rate of reloading.

Resting or autoexploring will also refill your quiver/pouch.

Important skills:

;Bow/sling mastery
:This multiplies the damage of pretty much every talent you use, so it should get high priority. Increased reload speed is also a must have in early game, when quivers are tiny.

;Steady shot
:Single-target damage multiplier, 3-turn cooldown. You'll use this a lot, so you want it maxed soon. Weapons that lower its cooldown to 2 will greatly enhance your damage output.

;Rapid shot
:When maxed out, it not only gives you the highest possible damage per turn (assuming you have the accuracy and quiver to make most of the shots), but will also let you apply debilitating effects "in between" turns and will give you many more chances at dodging enemy projectiles due to the way ToME projectiles work. In most cases it's better than Aim.

;Aim
:This talent looks like crap because of the "cannot move" restriction, but it's actually quite good, because it's instantaneous to cast and remove. When you find a spot where you want to stand and deliver, activate this, and fire away. If you want to move away, simply turn it off. You'll want either this or Rapid shot maxed out, depending on your crit chance and quiver capacity.

;Piercing Arrow
:Bow-using archers get this, as a beam attack. Extremely useful, but doesn't need multiple-point investment. Also remember that it can be used as a big single-target hit against heavily armored foes, since it pierces armour. Be sure to aim "through" the enemies, as it doesn't continue past your target.

;Pinning shot
:Stops stuff, but not for long. You'll want to use it before escaping, in corridors or against a wiggly enemy (snake rares).

;Scatter shot
:Scatter shot is great for stunning opponent groups, but BE CAREFUL, as you can hit yourself! Note that it uses only 1 arrow, unlike Volley of Arrows.

;Relaxed shot
:Your best way of regenerating stamina. Quick recovery is a waste of points for Archer.

;Disengage
:At least 1 point early. You need space between you and your opponents. Problematic to use when you really want to, though.

;Track
:You need to know where they are, to stay out of their missile attacks, or to avoid them sneaking up on you. Scales nicely with cunning, not so good for bow users.

;Precise strikes
:By endgame, you can expect about 20% crit chance from this talent. Great for Rapid shot users, who take a heavy hit to both crit chance and accuracy. Aim users might be able to hit 100% crit chance even without it. Requires you to unlock a tree that you'd want anyway.

Also pick up some Combat Accuracy. You want each shot to hit, because otherwise you need to retreat, which could get you into other kinds of trouble. Add more if you lag behind ever-increasing enemy defense.

Phase door and teleport runes are pretty much required (one of them), unless you're going for Antimagic. (An antimagic build is probably not the easiest choice for this class.) A movement infusion would also be highly desirable for more reliable escapes.

Heave makes sense, but I haven't played with it yet.

Some talents that need explanation:

* Dual Arrows: Oddly, this has no stamina cost. You select a square region containing (ideally) two or more enemies. The game will select two of these and fire arrows straight at them. Prior to beta 34, you must have direct line of sight to each of them, without any "shoot past the enemy" tricks, since the game will not use them. As of beta 34, this is much more powerful, as it will pick optimal firing routes for each monster.
** If one of the enemies is occluding the other, there is a chance that the arrow intended for the rear enemy will be fired first, and will hit and kill the front enemy; then the arrow intended for the front enemy will be fired at the spot where the front enemy was, and will stop there, never reaching the rear enemy. Therefore, this talent works best if your targets are not lined up behind each other (unless you aim at the rear two out of a group of three or more).
** Dual Arrows can be targeted on yourself, for example if you are in a narrow corridor with an enemy on each side. Targeting the region that includes both enemies and yourself will cause an arrow to fire at each enemy. You'll have to say yes to the "really target yourself" confirmation prompt, but you won't hit yourself.
* Volley of Arrows works much like Dual Arrows. The arrows do not magically hop over intervening enemies/obstacles; this does not work like Fireflash or other traditional ball spells. With the firing path optimization in beta 34, this talent became way stronger; previously, a great deal of the time, most of your opponents weren't hittable because straight-line paths to them would hit obstacles.
* Scatter Shot on the other hand does jump over obstacles. It is, essentially, a ball spell that instantiates a stunning arrow/shot in each tile.
