The One That Hunts is a hostile horror that appears near to you whenever you are wearing the [[Writhing Ring of the Hunter]] (and have chosen a prodigy) in combat. It disappears when you are out of combat (it is ignored for checking whether you are in combat). It is invulnerable and immune to debuffs. It is friendly to all characters that are hostile to you, and hostile to all characters that are friendly to you. Each turn, it acts based on a special AI:

# If it is at least 10 tiles away from you, it will teleport within 5 tiles of you.
# If it is adjacent to you, it will try to move away, so that it does not act as a shield for you.
# If you are in a tunnel (at least 2 adjacent tiles block movement), and {{t|Crumble}} is not on cooldown, it will use Crumble to blow up the tunnel.
# Else if you are being targeted by at least 3 enemies within a 10-tile distance, or 1 enemy of [[Rank]] 3 (Elite) or higher, and {{t|Twisted Evolution}} is not on cooldown, it will use Twisted Evolution to buff the enemies.
# Else if {{t|Tendrils Eruption}} is not on cooldown, it has a 20% chance to attack you with Tendrils Eruption.
# Else if {{t|Blightlash}} is not on cooldown, it will attack you with Blightlash.
# Else it will use normal AI.
