The area is an empty island. There are various torture implements scattered around, which you can use to torture yourself. Torturing yourself does some percentage of your current health and gives you +25 vim and +15 insanity. You can also leave items here for safekeeping. Transitioning to or from this zone will still set your insanity to zero if you have any.
