ToME4 contains a great deal of "lore", which is backstory or other writing. Lore is presented to the player under various circumstances:
- When finding an artifact
- When finding a scroll of lore (typically a random drop, but some are in fixed locations)
- When standing on a "signpost" (e.g. one near the entrance of Zigur, several in Dreadfell)
- When purchasing "books" from various stores
All the lore you've found on the current character is available at any time from the Esc menu. In addition, all the lore from all of your previous games is available in the Sher'Tul Fortress library.
