The Corrupted Sand Wyrm can sense players within a radius of 400 (i.e. enough to cover the whole map), even through walls. Hence when you enter the level, the Corrupted Sand Wyrm will immediately begin digging through the level to reach and attack you. Therefore you don't need to go searching for it - it will come to you.
