The Vaporous Emporium is a zone on the Clork Peninsula. It is a market run by merchants from the Atmos tribe. This zone must be assaulted as part of the quest Of Steamwork and Pain.
This zone is defended by the City Guard. The guards include steam giant warriors and gunners, as well as their domesticated yetis.
There are also steam giant civilians (commoners and scribes) in this zone. They are shown as hostile, but they will always run away from the player if possible. If the player kills High Guard Talosis without killing any civilians, they will earn the achievement Mercy, mercy! If the player kills 1000 steam giant citizens (tracked over multiple games), they will earn the achievement No mercy!
There are several market stalls on each level. They are terrain that block sight and movement. They will only appear where there is room to move around them. They can be looted for 10-30 gold each, as well as a 25% chance of receiving 1-3 random items. This loot will also include any items that naturally generated on the same tile.
One AAA spawns on every level.
There are advertisement posters on signposts on each level - 1 on the first level, 2 on the second and third levels. These can be read for lore. One of the posters on the third level contains an advertisement for Kaltor's Shop, and reading this poster will reveal the shop zone on the world map and start the quest The Grumpy Shopowner.
If a market stall generated on the same tile as a poster, the market stall will add the poster to the player's inventory as an item. In this case, the poster item must be used (from the inventory) to read it and learn the lore (and reveal Kaltor's Shop if applicable). Note that the poster will be lost if the player's APE melts it, e.g. automatically when leaving the level if the poster is still inside the APE.
