Level 2 is a maze of slime tunnels. Every turn on this level, there is a chance that a wall tile turns into a new jelly or ooze monster and attacks you, so you'll have to keep moving to not be overwhelmed (unlike most levels, which permit you to fully rest up between each encounter). Enemies generated in this way give no experience, although they do drop loot, so a player who's willing to grind can find a stay here very lucrative. (ToME in general is designed to discourage grinding, so this may change in a future version.) The walls-turned-enemies get stronger over time as you stay here longer.

Zone Information

The Sludgenest appears on the main wilderness map of Maj'Eyal (in the frozen north) at character level 30 or higher, but not in all games. In each game, only one out of Dogroth Caldera, the Sludgenest, the Old Conclave Vault, and (if Forbidden Cults is enabled) the Scourged Pits will appear. This is chosen randomly, unless you are a Thalore and have not yet unlocked Oozemancer, in which case this zone will always be chosen.

Level 1 of the Sludgenest is a relatively normal forest area populated by jelly and ooze enemies. The entrance to the Sludgenest proper is somewhere in the middle of the level.

Level 3 is a small (15x15) area where you meet the Corrupted Oozemancer and several minions. Victory will unlock the Oozemancer class. The walls here will also turn into enemies regularly, and they seem to turn into purple enemies with a greater frequency too.
