Official Expansion!

Not all adventurers seek fortune, not all that defend the world have good deeds in mind.
Lately the number of sightings of horrors have grown tremendously. People wander off the beaten paths only to be found years later, horribly mutated and partly insane, if they are found at all. It is becoming evident something is stirring deep below Maj'Eyal.
That something is you.

Forbidden Cults is a big expansion for Tales of Maj'Eyal to let you explore the horrors that lurk beneath the surface, to delve in long lost knowledge and lore and as usual to die a lot!


Forbidden Cults makes two new classes available to play:

  • Writhing One: Give in to the corrupting forces and turn yourself gradually into an horror, summon horrors to do your bidding, shed your skin and melt your face to assault your foes. With your arm already turned into a tentacle, what creature can stop you?
  • Cultist of Entropy: Using its insanity and control of entropic forces to unravel the normal laws of physic this caster class can turn healing into attacks and call upon the forces of the void to reduce its foes to dust.

Both those classes use a new resource called Insanity that gradually makes you both more chaotic and powerful as it fills up.


Forbidden Cults makes two new races available to play:

  • Drem: A corrupt subrace of dwarves, that somehow managed to keep a shred of sanity to not fully devolve into mindless horrors. They can enter a frenzy and even learn to summon horrors.
  • Krog: Ogres transformed by the very thing that should kill them. Their powerful attacks can stun their foes and they are so strong they can dual wield any one handed weapons.


Forbidden Cults adds many new zones for you to explore and die in:

  • Kroshkkur: An ancient Sher'tul Fortress laying half in ruins that serves as a focal point, and home, for all kinds of creatures seeking lost knowledge.
  • The Maggot: A huge living corrupted worm about to destroy Kroshkkur! Teleport inside and save your sanctuary of horrors!
  • The Godfeaster: Deep undergroud the ground shakes as ... -- redacted by corrupt forces --
  • The Scourge Pits: On the south of the Iron Throne lays a fool pit of ... -- redacted by corrupt forces --
  • Forbidden Tomes: Find special artifact books of ancient lore. But, read at your own peril, for the story they tell may very well suck you in... quite literally.
    Maybe you will even find The One That Writes...
  • Occult Egress: A strange, extremely old, contraption of unknown origin. It seems to require some kind of code sequence to activate. Maybe you will find some during your adventures?

    Up to 2 skeleton warriors of level 10 are summoned, and up to 5 skeletons can be controlled at once.
    At level 3 the summons become armoured skeletons warriors.
    At level 5, for every 3 skeleton warriors, a skeleton mage or archer will also be created without costing any souls. If this makes you go over your skeleton limit, a normal skeleton will be removed and its soul refunded.

    Skeleton minions come in fewer numbers than ghoul minions but are generally more durable.

    Description: Any time one of your skeleton or bone giant dies, it shatters in radius 1, making any foe bleed for 56.25 physical damage over 5 turns.
    If any other skeleton or bone giant minion is in the radius it will pickup some of the bones to enhance itself, increasing maximum and current life by 41, armour by 7 and gain 8.33 physical melee retaliation for 20 turns.
    This talent never works when you kill your own minions.

    At level 2 Warriors learn Giant Leap, a powerful jump attack that deals damage and dazes on impact and frees the skeleton from any stun, daze and pin effects they may have
    At level 3 Archers learn Vital Shot, a devastating attack that can stun and cripple their foes
    At level 5 Mages learn Meteoric Crash, a destructive spell that crushes and burns foes in a big radius for multiple turns and stuns them
    At level 6 Bone Giants learn You Shall Be My Weapon!, a massive attack that deals high damage, knockbacks foes and stuns them

    The corpselight can gain at most 0 stacks and the radius will never extend beyond 10.
    If cast while under 1 life it spawns with 3 stacks.
    The damage will increase with your Spellpower.

    At level 5 every 4 summoned ghouls or ghasts a ghoulking is summoned for free.
    Ghouls, ghasts and ghoulkings last for 5 turns.

    Ghoul minions come in larger numbers than skeleton minions but are generally more frail and disposable.

    Anytime a ghoul or ghast is hit it will explode in a messy splash of gore, dealing 11.52 frostdusk damage to all foes in radius 2 of it.
    Any creature caught in the blast also receives a random disease that deals 10.37 blight damage over 6 turns and reduces one attribute by 1.
    Only one ghoul may explode per turn. The one with the least time left to live is always the first to do so.
    The damage and disease power is increased by your Spellpower.

    Any ghoul or ghast dying or expiring within this cloud increases its duration by 0 turn and every two absorbed ghoul/ghast your gain back one soul.
    The cloud deals 4.74 frostdusk damage to any foes caught inside.
    The damage will increase with your Spellpower.

    When you are above 1 life it only affects 66.6% of the damage, letting through the rest.
    When you are under 1 life it affects 100% of the damage and also reduces the damage of critical hits by 13%.
    10 turns after leaving combat the shield will consume its mana and soul cost again to fully regenerate if needed. if that cost can not be matched, it unsustains.
    The shield strength will increase with your Spellpower.

    No more than 4 desolate wastes can trigger per shield activation.
