Ashes of Urh'Rok 1.6.7

Official Expansion!

Many in Maj'Eyal have heard of "demons", sadistic creatures who appear seemingly from nowhere, leaving a trail of suffering and destruction whereever they go. Their Fearscape floats far above the skies, watching and waiting, but not idly; their agents scout the land, their legions build up their forces, and their scholars develop new spells and strategies. As the barrier between our worlds begins to crack under their scrutiny, helpless Eyalites have begun to disappear, whisked up to serve as their slaves and playthings. They imbue these victims with magical powers to better survive the ensuing stresses - can you use your new-found abilities to escape the legions of Mal'Rok?

Features:

  • Start with a new class, the Doombringer! These avatars of demonic destruction charge into battle with massive two-handed weapons, cutting swaths of firey devastation through hordes of opponents. Armed with flame magic and demonic strength, they delight in fighting against overwhelming odds, softening up the crowd with waves of fire, then feeding on the flames and suffering of their surroundings to stay alive while quickly reducing any group to a pile of ash and gore.
  • Unlock a new class, the Demonologist, with an all-new item enhancement mechanic! Bearing a shield and the magic of the Spellblaze itself, these melee-fighting casters can grow demonic seeds from their fallen enemies. Imbue these seeds onto your items to gain a wide array of new talents and passive benefits, and summon the demons within them to fight on your side! Ever looked at a gigantic demon-cursed minotaur and wished it was on your side for once? Well, now you CAN summon one to pound your foes into paste while you cast devastating spells from afar, or call forth a squad of Fire Imps to pelt your enemies to death while they exhaust themselves on your impenetrable defenses! Demons have persistent health, making them a little more precious than disposable necromancer skeletons or summoner beasts, but can be revived from death nonetheless.
  • Two new zones, with all-new art, foes, and bosses! You've seen the plains of the Fearscape before, now see the lairs and headquarters of the demons themselves!
  • Over 10,000 words of written lore to find! The demons were once an enlightened, peaceful race, hailing from a distant planet known as Mal'Rok; learn what drove them to plot Eyal's eternal torture! Discover monuments to each of the demonic species and noteworthy individuals, showing the place of honor each has among them! Get a glimpse into the culture and daily lives of these sadistic invaders and their brainwashed thralls!
  • Unlock a new race, Doomelves: Shalore who've taken to the demonic alterations especially well, corrupting their typical abilities into a darker form. Blink away to safety, transform into a shadowy dúathedlen to hide in the shadows or prey on your foes with blasts of darkness, use your new resilience to soak up status effects and critical hits, and assault your enemies' minds to leave them unsteady in combat!
  • Between the aforementioned classes and Doomelves, a whopping 75 new talents!
  • Unlock two new cosmetic options! You know you've always wanted demon-horns.
  • Two new events, appearing anywhere in Eyal!
  • 20 new artifacts, with unique and interesting effects. Collect the Obsidian Treasures to amass more and more power! Slip your hands into the Will of Ul'Gruth and watch your sweeping blows smash down walls! Wear a giant hideous hell-mouth as a fashionable belt!
  • 7 new achievements! Conquer the worst Urh'Rok's forces can throw at you, and hang their metaphorical skulls from your profile page!

Forbidden Cults 1.6.7

Official Expansion!

Not all adventurers seek fortune, not all that defend the world have good deeds in mind.
Lately the number of sightings of horrors have grown tremendously. People wander off the beaten paths only to be found years later, horribly mutated and partly insane, if they are found at all. It is becoming evident something is stirring deep below Maj'Eyal.
That something is you.

Forbidden Cults is a big expansion for Tales of Maj'Eyal to let you explore the horrors that lurk beneath the surface, to delve in long lost knowledge and lore and as usual to die a lot!

Forbidden Cults makes two new classes available to play:

  • Writhing One: Give in to the corrupting forces and turn yourself gradually into an horror, summon horrors to do your bidding, shed your skin and melt your face to assault your foes. With your arm already turned into a tentacle, what creature can stop you?
  • Cultist of Entropy: Using its insanity and control of entropic forces to unravel the normal laws of physic this caster class can turn healing into attacks and call upon the forces of the void to reduce its foes to dust.

Both those classes use a new resource called Insanity that gradually makes you both more chaotic and powerful as it fills up.

Forbidden Cults makes two new races available to play:

  • Drem: A corrupt subrace of dwarves, that somehow managed to keep a shred of sanity to not fully devolve into mindless horrors. They can enter a frenzy and even learn to summon horrors.
  • Krog: Ogres transformed by the very thing that should kill them. Their powerful attacks can stun their foes and they are so strong they can dual wield any one handed weapons.

Forbidden Cults adds many new zones for you to explore and die in:

  • Kroshkkur: An ancient Sher'tul Fortress laying half in ruins that serves as a focal point, and home, for all kinds of creatures seeking lost knowledge.
  • The Maggot: A huge living corrupted worm about to destroy Kroshkkur! Teleport inside and save your sanctuary of horrors!
  • The Godfeaster: Deep undergroud the ground shakes as ... -- redacted by corrupt forces --
  • The Scourge Pits: On the south of the Iron Throne lays a fool pit of ... -- redacted by corrupt forces --
  • Forbidden Tomes: Find special artifact books of ancient lore. But, read at your own peril, for the story they tell may very well suck you in... quite literally.
Maybe you will even find The One That Writes...
  • Occult Egress: A strange, extremely old, contraption of unknown origin. It seems to require some kind of code sequence to activate. Maybe you will find some during your adventures?
  • The Entropic Void: So you think you are strong? Powerful? Invulnerable? In the end, entropy always wins, as you will learn...

What would an expansion about horrors be without a bunch of new horrors to torment you with? Please give a warm welcome to:

  • Searing Horrors: You liked luminous horrors? You loved radiant horrors? You will absolutely adore their searing big brothers!
  • Nethergates: It sleeps. Maybe it should stay that way.
  • Netherworms: Vampiric worm masses that are bound to tickle your fancy! And tickle hard.
  • Fearful Symmetry: Geometry has never been so lively!
  • Entropic Shards: Take an entropic crystal, shatter it with tentacles. And die.
  • : And more ...

"DarkGod, is that all?" Obviously not! You will also find your usual addition of:

  • Lore: Delve into the dark forgotten secrets of the world, where sanity is a very tenuous idea.
  • Artifacts: Discover new objects of power and use them to further your own goals.
  • New wyrmic tree: Unlock the scourge drake for your wyrmics.
  • Glass Golem: Unlock the glass golem option for your alchemists.
  • Events: Discover new strange contraptions in familiar zones. What could go wrong?
  • Achievements: Because there can never be enough!

Embers of Rage 1.6.7

Official Expansion!

One year has passed since the one the Orcs call the "Scourge from the West" came and single-handedly crushed the Orc Prides of Grushnak, Vor, Gorbat, and Rak'Shor.  The Allied Kingdoms, now linked by farportal to their distant, long-lost Sunwall allies, have helped them conquer most of Var'Eyal.  The few remnants of the ravaged Prides are caged...  but one Pride remains.  Kruk Pride, isolated on an island, is the last orcish settlement that stands; they, too, face their impending doom.  The Sunwall has blockaded the only exit point from the island, and now, the technologically advanced civilization of Steam Giants have come down from the mountains to take their homeland with machines and weaponry unlike anything else on Eyal.  Kruk Pride has reverse-engineered their technology before; their only hope is to do it again and rise up against the Pride's foes.

Features:

  • Explore a whole new campaign from level 1 to 50, one year after the events of the original Tales of Maj'Eyal campaign. Liberate the Orcs (or die trying) by rising up against the Sunwall, the Steam Giants of Atmos, and other dangers that may lie in wait...
  • Play as one of three new races: the battle-hardened Orcs, the brutal Yetis, and the unstoppable Whitehooves. Discover their stories, their pains, their hopes... and their awesome racial powers!
  • Risk your life in over 20 unique zones! Explore the ruins of a lost city, lay siege to the Sunwall forces at the Gates of Morning, and raid the Steam Giants' mining quarry - each has its own unique foes and hazards, leading each to feel and play different from the others.
  • Play as one of the four new tinker classes: Gunslingers, Sawbutchers, Psyshots and Annihilators! Plus a class evolution: Technomancers! Crush and rend your foes with heavy metal, electrocute and immolate them with your gadgets, charge across the battlefield or nimbly strafe in style - each plays differently, and none provide any shortage of ways to slay your foes.
  • Master steam technology to build powerful tinkers to augment your equipment. Need to close in a bit quicker? Turn your boots into rocket boots! Having a hard time deciding whether to shoot someone or stab them? Build a Hand Cannon into your gloves, or deploy a Weapon Automaton to do the stabbing for you! If you have a problem, steamtech has a solution, usually involving explosions; with over 80 different powerful contraptions to craft, enjoy unparalleled versatility and trying something different with every playthrough.
  • Master the tactical uses of over 140 talents! Fire bouncing trick-shots and psychic-infused shots, use your steamsaws as shields or wheels, terrify your foes with long mechanical arms - there are no "boring" talents here, everything has its own special applications and properties!
  • Use advanced technology in the world of Eyal! Burrow through sand, plant bombs to destroy tunnels, and discover that you aren't alone in using it...
  • Infusions and runes are for puny humans; implant new medical injectors to pump an array of experimental chemicals into your body! Injectors can use any (infinitely reusable) salve in your inventory as long as they're off their cooldown, giving you versatility you've wished you could get with a couple of inscriptions.
  • Loot over 70 new and powerful artifacts. Pump lead into foes with big guns, quick guns, and explosive guns! Shred them with saws that maim, saws that thirst for blood, and saws that aren't really saws! Violate common sense by strapping a rocket to your back and calling it a jetpack!
  • Enjoy dying in horrible and exotic ways at the hands (or claws, jaws, guns...) of over 140 new creatures! Not mere piles of stats and chain-stuns, these foes will provide unique challenges - suffer the Sunwall's newest cosmic spells, the new breeds of ritches that infest and multiply, the Steam Giants' elaborate defense systems, and find new strategies to adapt to each!
  • Earn a trunkload of achievements! Have your accomplishments recognized for liberating the Orcish people, displaying exceptional mercy or cruelty, or showing your prowess with impressive feats! Give a boss a fate worse than death, show Sunwall forces how frustrating it is to fight a Radiant Horror as a paladin, come out on top against impossible odds, display a suicidal lack of situational awareness, and wear a badge of pride or shame for each!
  • Read roughly 27,000 words of new lore to immerse yourself in the world! Learn how things have changed since the Scourge's campaign, feel hatred and/or pity for your foes, uncover grand schemes and sinister plots, and notice the elaborate connections between Var'Eyal's numerous factions. Every zone has a story behind it, and every story ties into a bigger picture; enjoy a tale of horror and humor, of intrigue and glory, of despair and hope.
  • Earn the right to use the classic (and Ashes of Urh'Rok) classes in Embers of Rage, and the new tinker classes in Maj'Eyal! Play a Brawler in the East to fulfill your life-long dream of suplexing an entire nation of giants, or play a Sawbutcher in Maj'Eyal to shred through Dreadfell in a whirlwind of sawblades and steam!

Mage Knight 1.6.0

Adds the Mage Knight metaclass, and its six sub-classes.

Forum discussion thread: http://forums.te4.org/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=48329

Phoenix Knight: Powerful warriors who blast their foes with solar fire while calling healing light upon their allies. Their solar fire attacks will strike as either fire or light damage, whichever will hit their target the hardest, and their potent healing and cleansing abilities make them tough opponents to bring down.

Mind Knight: Psionic warriors who strengthen their mental abilities by tapping into their inner magic. Adept at telekinesis, telepathy, and teleportation, they are mobile scouts who can quickly get a lay of the land and sow chaos among their foes with physical and mental debilitations, or even outright compulsions.

Storm Knight: Swift skirmishers who rely on extreme mobility and powerful lightning magic to strike their foes down and avoid reprisals. Extremely fast and difficult to pin down, they can cast entire enemy units into disarray with their wealth of area attacks. All mage knights can cast while they fight, but experienced storm knights are also able to fight while they move.

Earth Knight: The heaviest of infantry, earth knights hammer their foes with physical and natural forces while shielding themselves with the power of the earth. Highly resilient in the face of any attack, earth knights provide a slow and steady offense supported by powerful gemstone shields and the endurance of a living mountain.

Sea Knight: Healers first, fighters second, battle mages a somewhat distant third, while sea knights lack the raw offensive power of other mage knights, they make up for it with amazing personal defense and recovery abilities. And though their attacks may be individually weak, like the sea itself, they are able to wear down even the strongest defenses eventually, eroding their opponents away with gradually strengthening spells, making them terrors in a battle of attrition.

Mana Knight: Experimenting pioneers who do amazing things with raw magical energy. They have the most conventional magical training of the mage knights, even if they sometimes put it to unconventional use. Their arcane attacks can overwhelm the powers of other spellcasters, and while they lack the scope of power of full-fledged archmages, they are masters of the fundamentals of the various arcane schools.

Spell / Arcane Expertimentation1.30
  • Effective talent level: 1.3
    Use mode: Passive
    Is: a spell
Description: You may push the boundaries of magic, but you make sure to do so safely. Your various arcane safeguards provide you with 18% Arcane, Temporal, and Blight resistance, and 6% Arcane, Temporal, and Blight resistance caps. Further, your control of magic enables you to potentially cast spells with will alone, translating into a 9% resistance to silence effects. Resistances scale with Willpower. However, your experimental approach to magic causes some disruption to the natural world, which returns the favor when it gets the chance. Your Nature Resistance and cap is reduced by 4%.

The Aether Permeation talent interacts with your safeguards...differently. If you know that talent, this talent only provides a quarter the normal Arcane resistance. But the other three quarters become Arcane affinity.

Description: You've been practicing with setting up persistent wardings. When you activate this talent, and every 20 turns thereafter, you will receive a damage shield with a power of 9. If you already have a damage shield with a lower power, it will be replaced. If your current shield has a higher power, this talent will not reset its turn count, checking again each round until the current shield's value falls below the pending shield's value and then replacing it.

  • Effective talent level: 0.0
    Use mode: Passive
    Is: a spell
Description: You've begun conducting experiments into the flow of time. What could go wrong? Each turn, while enemies are in sight, you have a 5% chance to gain 1 "moments". The effects of your moments are randomly determined. At raw talent level 1, your moments can be converted into one free move each (this will not occur if you already have free movements). At raw talent level 2, each odd-numbered moment can conserve one turn of duration for a random beneficial effect. At raw talent level 3, each moment can reduce the duration of a random detrimental effect by one turn. At raw talent level 4, each moment can lower the cooldown of a random talent by one turn. At raw talent level 5, each moment can grant one-tenth of a bonus turn (to a maximum of a full turn).

All moments generated by any instance of this talent will do the same sort of thing (though not necessarily all to the same effect or talent). Moments that don't have a subject to work on will reduce the amount of time until the effect can trigger again. The effect is determined randomly, but weighted by which will be most useful at the time.

Tip: When the effect triggers, it will come with a burst of harmless temporal energy. If you gain free movement, this energy will be green. If you sustain beneficial effects, cyan. If you reduce detrimental effects, red. If you cool down talents, yellow. If you gain time, white.

Pure mana attacks deal arcane damage. You control the energy precisely, only harming enemies.

The Advanced Energy effect of your Mana Flare talents either purge terrain effects in the area, or destroy projectiles in the area, depending on the talent. Mana Bolt destroys projectiles.

Description: While your focus is on pure arcane forces, mana remains the fundamental force behind all magical energy manifestations, and you occasionally experiment with one of the others. Or, you know, a few of them. All at once. BUT YOU'RE REALLY CAREFUL THOUGH!

You hurl up to 1 blasts of random energy at random opponents within range 10. Each blast is individually fairly weak, dealing 35 damage. However, each blast has a radius of 1, so the combined force can be devastating against a tightly-clustered group or a single powerful foe. While such a conflagration of random magical energy may seem risky to unleash, your experimental safeguards ensure that you and any friendlies come out unscathed.

Number of blasts scales with Willpower. The number of blasts can crit, but the damage does not.

    Essence cost: 20
    Range: melee/personal
    Cooldown: 10
    Travel Speed: instantaneous
Usage Speed: Weapon (100% of a turn)
Description: You lash out with a pair of attacks for 34% damage. If both attacks hit, you gain a shield effect with a value of 0 for 3 turns.

If you wield dual weapons, you shift fluidly from offense to defense and back again, your whirling weapons creating a reflection shield.

If you wield a two-handed weapon, you throw yourself into a berserk fury, denying any injury. This functions as a shell shield (the resistance gained is equal to the proportion of your max life that the shield value would cover).

If you wield a weapon and shield, you ward off any attack that may come, creating a regular damage shield - but at double strength.

If you wield a single weapon (or are unarmed), you guard yourself as best you can, and use the reprieve to get a second wind, creating a time shield (though this does not reduce incoming effect durations).

If this attack triggers Eldritch Combat, it will always trigger a Blast attack, when that spell is available.

  • Effective talent level: 1.3
    Use mode: Sustained
    Range: melee/personal
    Cooldown: 0
    Travel Speed: instantaneous
Usage Speed: Instant (0% of a turn)
Description: The iconic power of the Mage Knights, you channel the raw energy of your magic outwardly as you fight, saving the effort of taking active control of your power and allowing it to flow freely. The power you are channeling is visible in an aura around you, bright enough to increase your light radius by 2. At base, channeling your power outwardly adds 10 damage to all attacks of the energy type appropriate to your mage knight offensive spells. This scales with the higher of Spellpower or Mindpower.

In addition, your first successful melee attack each turn grants a 23% chance to trigger one of various Mage Knight talents instead of dealing the bonus damage. This quarters both the cooldown and Essence cost of the talent, and can only happen once per turn. The talent operates at two-thirds normal power. Triggered talents are determined randomly, but with prioritization based on how useful they are in the moment (spells that restore life are more likely to trigger when low on life, spells that provide buffs are more likely to trigger when you aren't heavily buffed, etc). Spells of higher talent level are generally prioritized over those of lower level.

If you are wielding a two-handed weapon, triggered talents operate at full power.

If you are using a shield, when you trigger a talent, you also have a 50% chance to automatically Block. Defensive talents have their priority increased when using a shield.

If you are using two weapons, when you trigger a talent, you have a 50% chance to trigger the talent a second time at no further resource cost.

If you are using a single one-handed weapon (or unarmed), your chance of triggering a talent is increased by half.

Note that since Essence users rely on channeling minimal amounts of mana, they can't wield staves to the same effect as others. The staff Accuracy bonus is reduced to one-fifth normal for characters with an Essence pool.

Your power modifier for a low Essence applies to the bonus damage and to your chance of triggering a talent. Note that since it will also apply to the power of your talents normally, this means that Eldritch Combat is doubly impacted by a low Essence - pace yourself!

Some Mage Knight talents have "Advanced Energy" effects. These effects apply when you manually use the talent while Eldritch Combat is active. Many of these advanced effects may be occasionally inconvenient, so if you don't wish to trigger them you may deactivate Eldritch Combat to prevent them.
    Eldritch Combat
1/5
  • Effective talent level: 1.3
    Use mode: Passive
Description: While Eldritch Combat allows a Mage Knight to channel their magical power outwardly while they fight, Eldritch Body lets them channel it inwardly, directing the flow of it through their body to augment their speed and power, and help them withstand powerful forces.

When you first learn this talent, you may substitute Magic for Strength and Dexterity for purposes of equipment requirements, and you substitute magic for all other abilities for purposes of weapon damage, and you gain the ability to wear all forms of armor. Of course, if you have the physical aptitude to wield the weapon normally, that still helps to some degree; you add 6% of the normal ability damage modifiers into your weapons as well; weapons that can use both Strength and Dexterity will convert the Strength modifier to a Dexterity modifier as well if your Dexterity is higher than your Strength. In addition, using your magic to strengthen, hasten, and reinforce your body allows you to make the most of your fighting style:
-When armed with two weapons, they may both be one-handed weapons. For each dagger that you wield, your offhand damage modifier increases by 25% (if you wield a single dagger or a dagger with a shield this modifier will apply to the bonus attack from them as well).
-When armed with a two-handed weapon, any time you attack you make a second attack for 25% normal damage.
-When armed with a shield, any time you attack you also execute a shield bash for 50% normal damage.
-When armed with a single weapon (or unarmed) any time you attack you also make an unarmed strike for 50% normal damage. When fully unarmed you get a +25% bonus to your combat speed.

Your ability to magically reinforce your body allows you to mitigate overwhelming forces, although this takes a lot of effort and your strength will fade rapidly when you do it, possibly even to the point of death. You reduce all damage received from other characters by potentially as much as 13%. However, the actual reduction is multiplied by both the percentage of your current effective life over your maximum effective life (which includes damage shields and negative life threshold), and the percentage of the damage over your current effective life. So this protects you best when you are at high health and facing high incoming damage - lesser attacks aren't worth the effort to mitigate, and as your strength fails so does your ability to exert that sort of effort. The calculation accumulates damage over the course of one turn, so multiple attacks all coming in the same turn will be reduced according to their combined total compared to your initial life. If the final percent reduction is below 17%, no reduction will occur at all. All damage mitigated by this effect is then returned as irresistible damage over the next 5 turns as your strength fades.

Description: Your power flares, increasing all damage by 11% for 4 turns and allowing you to ignore the power reduction for low Essence.

At raw talent level 2, you also boost your Physical Resistance.

At raw talent level 3, you also boost your Physical Critical Chance.

At raw talent level 4, you also boost your Spell and Mind Critical Chance.

At raw talent level 5, you also boost your Critical Multiplier.

This talent can be triggered by Eldritch Combat.

Additionally, as a passive effect, you are able to overcome unworthy opponents with trivial effort. Your Essence regeneration increases by 1 for every turn beyond 10 that you have both been in combat and not received any damage. Leaving combat or taking damage immediately resets this bonus to 0. (In practice this is almost never going to matter in actual play and is merely a convenience for using training dummies and such, but who knows it might do something occasionally).

  • Effective talent level: 1.3
    Use mode: Passive
Description: It is important for a Mage Knight to pace itself during battle, but that need not mean standing idle. When you pass a turn in combat (allowing you to regain Essence), you go on guard for one turn, gaining 22% resist all, 5% resist all cap, and 33% new effect reduction.

At higher talent levels, if you are at maximum Essence when you pass a turn, then you can take advantage of the breather recuperate in other ways:

At raw talent level 2, you recover 15 life.

At raw talent level 3, all of your detrimental effects have their durations lowered by 1.

At raw talent level 4, one of your talents will cooldown an additional turn.

At raw talent level 5, another talent will cooldown an additional turn.
