    Select First Escort 1.5.0

    Creates a setting under Game Options/Gameplay for selecting the
    first escort that will spawn.

    This is intended to allow players to make characters that rely on a certain
    escort reward without having to reroll repeatedly or savescum to get what they
    need, but not gain the advantage of selecting ALL the escorts to get the best
    possible reward every time. With this addon, only the first escort to spawn
    will be of the selected type; all others will be randomly selected.

    An advantage of this over addons that allow selecting the escort type when it
    spawns is that it is less likely to cause bugs. This addon does not create a
    new in-game menu, but rather handles selection through the settings menu.
    Escorts are generated using the standard quest code.

    This is a fork (with permission) of Marson's auto-explore and rest tweaks. It includes as well C.Lowe/CaptainTrip's improvements as well. It does not include, but recommends also using Johnny0's Faster RRE add-on for even better rest and auto-explore experience. This add-on contains numerous Quality of Life improvements designed to make resting and auto-exploring easier to use, brings the add-on overall up to being compatible with 1.6.x, and generally seeks to remove it being more optimal to do timed rests or manual recovery (particularly to help higher difficulty level and players without Faster RRE). Cleaned up feature list in this take, to make it easier to see what it does.

    It is recommended to turn off Marson's Rest and Auto-Explore as well as C.Lowe's Rest Tweaks if using. This addon is meant to include all of them.

    Latest Update Notes:
    • Changed steam sustain behavior to match current gameplay. Before sustains tended to shut off when available resource was 0, now they don't seem to do so. This will now only turn off sustains that drain steam if steam is going below 0, so as to get to a steady finish state.
    • Fix minor bug where stealth enabling was always on if you had it.
    • Added new option to ignore quest members when resting or exploring. It defaults to off but for those folks that know they want to ignore those quest allies and rest a bit.

    Existing Features:
    • removed First Sighting and Reset on Rest. Someone can patch them in if they'd like it back, but I'm not really keeping them alive.
    • Fixed actor bugs causing Elemental Surge to never reset. Thanks Reca♥den.
    • Fixed bug with Paradox Spacetime Tuning from 1.5.5. This may rebreak posessors with paradox, hard to kinda test.

    • Compatibility with restart sustains. Thanks zizzo.
    • When resting, it will check for infusions and runes that could be used to accelerate HP, Mana, or Equilibrium (via Ancestral Life or Meditation) recovery. If the acceleration appears significant, it will use them, rotating from first available infusion or rune outward. In experiment, I found this often reduced rest turn time by 50-80 percent, improving the more drained the resource was. Particularly helpful for Mana, as it avoids trade-off advantages of short term resting (for increased mana regen) + rune use by just handling that more optimal play for you automatically without breaking rest.
    • Support for steam implants, with usual checkboxes. This may not always be faster based on steam sustains that may disable after the initial round of rest and steam implants having very long cooldowns (30+ turns) and steam's resource max being pretty small. It tries to be conservative on that, so will most likely help for cases where your functional steam regen rate is < 2.00 and never activate for things much above it. I found I was often getting 5-20 steam per turn, which makes the implant support useless.
    • Supports for medical healing salve injectors. Cooldown measurements are a bit odd here, since they can range from 5-20 depending on injector. Went with 10 as a happy medium for how many turns of natural regen is considered to be equal to the cooldown cost of using it.
    • Adding support to auto-stealth if available and not stealthed.
    • Option for ignoring small damage when moving and resting, basically if it is <5%, it will ignore it by default, prevent small DoTs from preventing rest.
    • Options added to control whether or not to use inscriptions to accelerate recovery of things.
    • Fixes a ToME bug that can cause autoexplore or running to move only a single square and hang if used immediately after killing an enemy.
    • Lore discovery will only stop autoexplore if it triggers a popup.
    • Autoexplore will ignore Exploratory/Infinite Farportal return portals until the entire level has been explored.
    • Ignores special terrain features such as Font of Healing after they are first discovered.
    • Ignores open chests and alt Maze floor cracks.
    • Rest and AE ask for confirmation if you have an escort in your party.
    • Ignore already activated pedestals.
    • Checks for and waits on any rechargeable items.
    • Checks for and reloads any ammo in offhand quiver.
    • Waits for cooldowns of talents set to auto-use.
    • Waits for depleted air to replenish.
    • Combines all checks into a single instance of rest, rather than having cooldowns etc. require a second resting phase.

    Determines how auto-explore and running respond to telepathy, including mouse moves. Regardless of the setting, hostiles seen via telepathy will not halt resting or the Rod of Recall, nor trigger automated talents. Unique or powerful monsters (rank > 3) will always trigger a halt to running when they are spotted via telepathy for any mode except 'Original'.

    Available modes:
    • 'Always Viligant' always stops running when a hostile creature is seen via telepathy.
    • 'Original' is standard ToME auto-explore behavior, which ignores telepathy when running or auto-exploring.

    • Telepathy will not prevent auto-exploring the way normal sight will. If a halt is triggered by telepathy, hitting auto-explore again will move you at least one more square in the direction of the auto-explore path. If in 'Always Viligant' mode and a hostile is within telepathic sight (but not normal sight), you will auto-explore in 1 square per keypress increments.

    Effects Under Actors 1.7.0

    An experimental addon that modifies the rendering of various lasting spell/talent effects so that they are displayed below the player and NPCs, in an attempt to prevent multiple overlapping effects from effectively obscuring actors in their area of effect. Also can optionally "flatten" display of overlapping effects by displaying only one effect animation in the overlapping area (hopefully also reducing slowdown on older computers).

    Functionality is controlled by game options "UI | Display effects under actors" and "UI | "Flatten" overlapping effects".

    Phoenix Knight: Powerful warriors who blast their foes with solar fire while calling healing light upon their allies. Their solar fire attacks will strike as either fire or light damage, whichever will hit their target the hardest, and their potent healing and cleansing abilities make them tough opponents to bring down.

    Mind Knight: Psionic warriors who strengthen their mental abilities by tapping into their inner magic. Adept at telekinesis, telepathy, and teleportation, they are mobile scouts who can quickly get a lay of the land and sow chaos among their foes with physical and mental debilitations, or even outright compulsions.

    Storm Knight: Swift skirmishers who rely on extreme mobility and powerful lightning magic to strike their foes down and avoid reprisals. Extremely fast and difficult to pin down, they can cast entire enemy units into disarray with their wealth of area attacks. All mage knights can cast while they fight, but experienced storm knights are also able to fight while they move.

    Earth Knight: The heaviest of infantry, earth knights hammer their foes with physical and natural forces while shielding themselves with the power of the earth. Highly resilient in the face of any attack, earth knights provide a slow and steady offense supported by powerful gemstone shields and the endurance of a living mountain.

    Sea Knight: Healers first, fighters second, battle mages a somewhat distant third, while sea knights lack the raw offensive power of other mage knights, they make up for it with amazing personal defense and recovery abilities. And though their attacks may be individually weak, like the sea itself, they are able to wear down even the strongest defenses eventually, eroding their opponents away with gradually strengthening spells, making them terrors in a battle of attrition.

    Mana Knight: Experimenting pioneers who do amazing things with raw magical energy. They have the most conventional magical training of the mage knights, even if they sometimes put it to unconventional use. Their arcane attacks can overwhelm the powers of other spellcasters, and while they lack the scope of power of full-fledged archmages, they are masters of the fundamentals of the various arcane schools.

    Buff Golemancy & Advanced-Golemancy tree, to make your golem toucher and git harder.

    A Combat Veteran tree rework, because the base tree isn't very attractive. Full details in the forum thread.

    Quick Recovery: Quick Recovery and Fast Metabolism merged. Lifegain scales with CON.
    Warrior's Determination: If more than one enemy is visible, take reduced damage, improving as you see more enemies.
    Spell Shield: Spell save unchanged. 4-15% Arcane/Fire/Cold/Lightning resist added. When you save against a magical effect, daze the caster for 1-3 turns.
    Unending Frenzy: Once a turn when you hit an enemy in melee you gain a 3 turn 0.7%-2.5% combat speed bonus which stacks up to 10 times. Kills restore life/stamina, lifegain scales with CON and occurs once per turn.

    This version has seen a complete playthrough main AoA campaign on insane roguelike without major issues, however it's still being tested and subject to change.

    This addon overloads the combat techniques tree, and is therefore incompatible with any addon or future versions which change that file.

    Barachi -- Playable Race 1.6.7

    Adds Barachim, a froglike race, as a playable race selectable in all campaigns. They have been adapted from their original appearance in Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup in order to better gel with ToME's gameplay and lore.

    Barachim are stationary fighters with an innate aptitude for handling the fundamental elements of Fire, Cold, Acid, and Lightning. The more they use a specific element, the more attuned they become to it, increasing their power dramatically as an encounter goes on. They can further use their attunement to the elements to stoke the faint vestige of divine power they still possess, enhancing their ability to use talents; the most powerful barachim can summon a bountiful fountain of water to heal and purify their bodies and drench their enemies. However, they suffer a 30% movement speed penalty when on dry land, relying primarily on their Leapfrog talent to hop around the battlefield and reposition themselves.

    Barachi are best suited as tanks or elemental casters, staking out a position on the battlefield and steadily building momentum as they manipulate the elements to their advantage, shrugging off their foes' attacks and retaliating with an accelerating barrage of specialised combat abilities that tip the scales increasingly in their favour.

    Not all adventurers seek fortune, not all that defend the world have good deeds in mind.
    Lately the number of sightings of horrors have grown tremendously. People wander off the beaten paths only to be found years later, horribly mutated and partly insane, if they are found at all. It is becoming evident something is stirring deep below Maj'Eyal.
    That something is you.

    Forbidden Cults is a big expansion for Tales of Maj'Eyal to let you explore the horrors that lurk beneath the surface, to delve in long lost knowledge and lore and as usual to die a lot!


    Forbidden Cults makes two new classes available to play:

    • Writhing One: Give in to the corrupting forces and turn yourself gradually into an horror, summon horrors to do your bidding, shed your skin and melt your face to assault your foes. With your arm already turned into a tentacle, what creature can stop you?
    • Cultist of Entropy: Using its insanity and control of entropic forces to unravel the normal laws of physic this caster class can turn healing into attacks and call upon the forces of the void to reduce its foes to dust.

    Both those classes use a new resource called Insanity that gradually makes you both more chaotic and powerful as it fills up.


    Forbidden Cults makes two new races available to play:

    • Drem: A corrupt subrace of dwarves, that somehow managed to keep a shred of sanity to not fully devolve into mindless horrors. They can enter a frenzy and even learn to summon horrors.
    • Krog: Ogres transformed by the very thing that should kill them. Their powerful attacks can stun their foes and they are so strong they can dual wield any one handed weapons.


    Forbidden Cults adds many new zones for you to explore and die in:

    • Kroshkkur: An ancient Sher'tul Fortress laying half in ruins that serves as a focal point, and home, for all kinds of creatures seeking lost knowledge.
    • The Maggot: A huge living corrupted worm about to destroy Kroshkkur! Teleport inside and save your sanctuary of horrors!
    • The Godfeaster: Deep undergroud the ground shakes as ... -- redacted by corrupt forces --
    • The Scourge Pits: On the south of the Iron Throne lays a fool pit of ... -- redacted by corrupt forces --
    • Forbidden Tomes: Find special artifact books of ancient lore. But, read at your own peril, for the story they tell may very well suck you in... quite literally.

Also increases Fire and Light Resistance Cap by 0%. However, intense cold can suppress your inner fires - you take a -0% penalty on your cold resistance and cold resistance cap.

      In addition, you can use your wards to fuel your regenerative abilities. When beneficial to do so, you will expend points of ward negation for healing instead.

      Use mode: Passive
      Description: You manifest wings of brightly colored flame to protect yourself and punish your foes. Your flames rapidly shift through red, orange, yellow, and white. Every time you take damage, you have a 3% chance to shield yourself with your wings, with the result dependent on their color (randomly determined). This is checked once per turn per opponent, and if it succeeds applies to all damage done by that opponent that turn.

      If your wings are red, you will take the damage fully, but also reciprocate an equal amount as solar fire damage on the attacker.

      If your wings are orange, you will absorb 50% of the damage, negating it and converting it to rejuvenation over five turns.

      If your wings are yellow, you will instantly heal the damage, negating it.

      If your wings are white, you will reflect 50% of the damage, negating it and redirecting it to the attacker as solar fire damage.

      In addition, any time you pass a turn in combat (default hotkey 5) you wrap yourself in your wings for that turn. This doubles the chance they will apply.

      Chance of success increases with Strength. You may disable this function by turning off Eldritch Combat (in case you don't want to risk dealing backlash damage to people who attack you).

      Description: The most iconic power of the phoenix is its ability to revive anew from the ashes. The soul of the phoenix sleeps within you, affording you similar power. Passively, you do not die until your life falls more than 35 below 0.

      While this talent is sustained, when you fall below 0 life, you immolate and revive like the phoenix of legend. You deactivate this talent to unleash a blast of solar fire in a radius of 1, dealing 17 damage to all enemies within. You and any allies in the area are healed instead.

      Description: The iconic power of the Mage Knights, you channel the raw energy of your magic outwardly as you fight, saving the effort of taking active control of your power and allowing it to flow freely. Your channeled power is visible as a brightly colored aura around you.

      Your first successful melee attack each turn grants a 25% chance to trigger one of various Mage Knight talents instead of dealing the bonus damage. This reduces the cooldown of the talent to one-third normal and the Essence cost to one-fifth normal. The talent operates at two-thirds normal power. Triggered talents are determined randomly, but with prioritization based on how useful they are in the moment (spells that restore life are more likely to trigger when low on life, spells that attack multiple foes are more likely to trigger the more foes ar around, etc). Talents of higher talent level are generally prioritized over those of lower level.

      If you are wielding a two-handed weapon, triggered talents operate at full power.

      If you are using a shield, when you trigger a talent, you also have a 50% chance to automatically Block. Defensive talents have their priority increased when using a shield.

      If you are using two weapons, when you trigger a talent, you have a 50% chance to trigger the talent a second time at no further resource cost.

      If you are using a single one-handed weapon (or unarmed), your chance of triggering a talent is increased by half.

      Note that since Essence users rely on channeling minimal amounts of mana, but are able to combine them with mental and physical effort to produce potent magical effects, they don't receive the normal staff accuracy bonus. Instead, when wielding a staff, they deal bonus damage of their favored energy type equal to one-third their Magic stat plus two per point their Accuracy exceeds their target's Defense (short staves do not change this calculation).

      Description: You are protected by potent wards that absorb a portion of any damage you receive, up to 20% of it, though your wards lose efficiency against low amounts of damage and at low life totals (potentially only absorbing as little as one-tenth this amount). However, this damage isn't negated entirely; the wards leak the absorbed energy back out over the course of the next four turns, spreading the damage out over time, but you will eventually receive all of the absorbed damage. Returned damage is not subject to resistances and the like a second time, but can still be blocked by damage shields, or prepared for with healing and regeneration.

      Your wards also rejuvenate energy quickly, improving your life regeneration by 4 and thereby helping to offset the delayed damage more efficiently.

      Finally, the wards work to counter detrimental effects. Each turn you accumulate a surge value of 24. For every 100 points of surge value you accumulate, all physical, mental, and magical detrimental effects upon you have their durations reduced by one.

Your melee attacks passively deal 0 additional damage of your favored energy type. Stealth and Invisibility reduction and bonus damage scale with magic.

      Description: Essence is fundamentally a combination of Stamina, Psi, and Mana, combining physical, mental, and magical reserves into a single pool of energy. Marshalling all your energies together takes effort, but you are able to recover substantially faster than most. Your Essence regeneration improves by 0.8, scaling with Willpower.

      In addition, when you pass a turn during combat (default hotkey 5) the brief rest combined with the high adrenaline allows you more opportunity to recover. You regain 0 life (based on your current life regeneration), 0 Essence (based on your current Essence regeneration), and have a 10% chance to lower the cooldown of all non-fixed cooldown talents by 1. Your current surge value from Eldritch Wardings also increases by 2 (based on your current surge per turn). This only works while there are enemies in your vicinity; if you're in a safe location, you don't have enough adrenaline pumping to receive the benefit.

      Description: You are trained in the use of all melee weapons. You get a 10 bonus to Accuracy, 2% critical chance, and a 20% bonus to weapon damage with any melee weapons. The effects of this talent are increased by 25% when wielding a two-handed weapon.

      You also receive a +30 bonus to Physical Power regardless of weapon wielded.

      When you first learn this talent, you may substitute Magic for all other abilities for purposes of weapon damage and weapon requirements. You are also able to make two attacks per round regardless of fighting style, as follows:
      -When armed with two weapons, they may both be one-handed weapons. For each dagger that you wield, your offhand damage modifier increases by 25% and your combat speed by 10% (if you wield a single dagger or a dagger with a shield this modifier will apply to the bonus attack from them as well).
      -When armed with a two-handed weapon, any time you attack you make a second attack for 25% normal damage.
      -When armed with a shield, any time you attack you also execute a shield bash for 50% normal damage.
      -When armed with a single weapon (or unarmed) any time you attack you also make an unarmed strike for 50% normal damage. When fully unarmed you get a +20% bonus to your combat speed.

      The damage bonuses don't stack with those from other mastery talents. The Accuracy and critical bonuses don't apply if you know the Combat Accuracy talent or if you have a Steam pool.

      Light Armor: 8% Physical Resistance, 16 Defense*, 6% chance to shrug off physical critical hits.
      Massive Armor: 16% additional Armor Hardiness, 8 Armor, 6% reduced critical multiplier when receiving physical critical hits.
      Heavy Armor: Receives 50% of the first benefit from each other type, 40% of the second benefit, and 30% of the third benefit.

      *The Defense bonus will be converted to a 4 bonus to Armor and a 2% bonus to Resist All if your existing Dexterity and Defense are low enough that it does not seem like you have sufficient investment in Defense for it to be a useful form of defense for you.
