Banshee
Silence and confuse enemies.
Drift through walls.
Cut away healing.
Banshees begin in a small starting zone of their own.
Banshees are unlocked if you have unlocked any other undead.

Mummy
Embalming increases Strength and Willpower
Entangle wraps up an enemy, slowing them, with a low cooldown.
Inevitability wears away at the resistances of your enemies as your own resistances mount.
Uniquely, they have a small secondary racial tree that removes detrimental effects.
Mummies begin in their own starter zone, a low-level dungeon reminiscent of both the Blighted Scar and the Elven Ruins.
Mummies are initially locked, and unlock by defeating the Mummy Lord

Wight
Blast enemies with elemental power.
Ignore attacks with your ghostly nature.
Unerringly seek out enemies, even behind walls
Wights begin in a tiny starting zone of their own.
Wights are unlocked by completing the ancient battleground event.

Phoenix Knight: Powerful warriors who blast their foes with solar fire while calling healing light upon their allies. Their solar fire attacks will strike as either fire or light damage, whichever will hit their target the hardest, and their potent healing and cleansing abilities make them tough opponents to bring down.

Mind Knight: Psionic warriors who strengthen their mental abilities by tapping into their inner magic. Adept at telekinesis, telepathy, and teleportation, they are mobile scouts who can quickly get a lay of the land and sow chaos among their foes with physical and mental debilitations, or even outright compulsions.

Storm Knight: Swift skirmishers who rely on extreme mobility and powerful lightning magic to strike their foes down and avoid reprisals. Extremely fast and difficult to pin down, they can cast entire enemy units into disarray with their wealth of area attacks. All mage knights can cast while they fight, but experienced storm knights are also able to fight while they move.

Earth Knight: The heaviest of infantry, earth knights hammer their foes with physical and natural forces while shielding themselves with the power of the earth. Highly resilient in the face of any attack, earth knights provide a slow and steady offense supported by powerful gemstone shields and the endurance of a living mountain.

Sea Knight: Healers first, fighters second, battle mages a somewhat distant third, while sea knights lack the raw offensive power of other mage knights, they make up for it with amazing personal defense and recovery abilities. And though their attacks may be individually weak, like the sea itself, they are able to wear down even the strongest defenses eventually, eroding their opponents away with gradually strengthening spells, making them terrors in a battle of attrition.

Mana Knight: Experimenting pioneers who do amazing things with raw magical energy. They have the most conventional magical training of the mage knights, even if they sometimes put it to unconventional use. Their arcane attacks can overwhelm the powers of other spellcasters, and while they lack the scope of power of full-fledged archmages, they are masters of the fundamentals of the various arcane schools.

Many in Maj'Eyal have heard of "demons", sadistic creatures who appear seemingly from nowhere, leaving a trail of suffering and destruction whereever they go. Their Fearscape floats far above the skies, watching and waiting, but not idly; their agents scout the land, their legions build up their forces, and their scholars develop new spells and strategies. As the barrier between our worlds begins to crack under their scrutiny, helpless Eyalites have begun to disappear, whisked up to serve as their slaves and playthings. They imbue these victims with magical powers to better survive the ensuing stresses - can you use your new-found abilities to escape the legions of Mal'Rok?

  • Start with a new class, the Doombringer! These avatars of demonic destruction charge into battle with massive two-handed weapons, cutting swaths of firey devastation through hordes of opponents. Armed with flame magic and demonic strength, they delight in fighting against overwhelming odds, softening up the crowd with waves of fire, then feeding on the flames and suffering of their surroundings to stay alive while quickly reducing any group to a pile of ash and gore.
  • Unlock a new class, the Demonologist, with an all-new item enhancement mechanic! Bearing a shield and the magic of the Spellblaze itself, these melee-fighting casters can grow demonic seeds from their fallen enemies. Imbue these seeds onto your items to gain a wide array of new talents and passive benefits, and summon the demons within them to fight on your side! Ever looked at a gigantic demon-cursed minotaur and wished it was on your side for once? Well, now you CAN summon one to pound your foes into paste while you cast devastating spells from afar, or call forth a squad of Fire Imps to pelt your enemies to death while they exhaust themselves on your impenetrable defenses! Demons have persistent health, making them a little more precious than disposable necromancer skeletons or summoner beasts, but can be revived from death nonetheless.

The demons were once an enlightened, peaceful race, hailing from a distant planet known as Mal'Rok; learn what drove them to plot Eyal's eternal torture! Get a glimpse into the culture and daily lives of these sadistic invaders and their brainwashed thralls!
  • Unlock a new race, Doomelves: Shalore who've taken to the demonic alterations especially well, corrupting their typical abilities into a darker form. Blink away to safety, transform into a shadowy dúathedlen to hide in the shadows or prey on your foes with blasts of darkness, use your new resilience to soak up status effects and critical hits, and assault your enemies' minds to leave them unsteady in combat!

Official Expansion!

One year has passed since the one the Orcs call the "Scourge from the West" came and single-handedly crushed the Orc Prides of Grushnak, Vor, Gorbat, and Rak'Shor.  The Allied Kingdoms, now linked by farportal to their distant, long-lost Sunwall allies, have helped them conquer most of Var'Eyal.  The few remnants of the ravaged Prides are caged...  but one Pride remains.  Kruk Pride, isolated on an island, is the last orcish settlement that stands; they, too, face their impending doom.  The Sunwall has blockaded the only exit point from the island, and now, the technologically advanced civilization of Steam Giants have come down from the mountains to take their homeland with machines and weaponry unlike anything else on Eyal.  Kruk Pride has reverse-engineered their technology before; their only hope is to do it again and rise up against the Pride's foes.

      Not all adventurers seek fortune, not all that defend the world have good deeds in mind.
      Lately the number of sightings of horrors have grown tremendously. People wander off the beaten paths only to be found years later, horribly mutated and partly insane, if they are found at all. It is becoming evident something is stirring deep below Maj'Eyal.
      That something is you.

      Forbidden Cults is a big expansion for Tales of Maj'Eyal to let you explore the horrors that lurk beneath the surface, to delve in long lost knowledge and lore and as usual to die a lot!


      Forbidden Cults makes two new classes available to play:

      • Writhing One: Give in to the corrupting forces and turn yourself gradually into an horror, summon horrors to do your bidding, shed your skin and melt your face to assault your foes. With your arm already turned into a tentacle, what creature can stop you?
      • Cultist of Entropy: Using its insanity and control of entropic forces to unravel the normal laws of physic this caster class can turn healing into attacks and call upon the forces of the void to reduce its foes to dust.

      Both those classes use a new resource called Insanity that gradually makes you both more chaotic and powerful as it fills up.


      Forbidden Cults makes two new races available to play:

      • Drem: A corrupt subrace of dwarves, that somehow managed to keep a shred of sanity to not fully devolve into mindless horrors. They can enter a frenzy and even learn to summon horrors.
      • Krog: Ogres transformed by the very thing that should kill them. Their powerful attacks can stun their foes and they are so strong they can dual wield any one handed weapons.


      Forbidden Cults adds many new zones for you to explore and die in:

      • Kroshkkur: An ancient Sher'tul Fortress laying half in ruins that serves as a focal point, and home, for all kinds of creatures seeking lost knowledge.
      • The Maggot: A huge living corrupted worm about to destroy Kroshkkur! Teleport inside and save your sanctuary of horrors!
      • The Godfeaster: Deep undergroud the ground shakes as ... -- redacted by corrupt forces --
      • The Scourge Pits: On the south of the Iron Throne lays a fool pit of ... -- redacted by corrupt forces --

        Description: Summon up a rush of wind to move a target. You immediately propel a target up to 7 tiles (hostile targets can resist this as knockback and receive a physical save, but may be knocked off-balance), with a burst of wind dealing 89 Physical damage to all enemies in a radius of 2 around both the target's starting and ending points. If the target doesn't move the wind hits their starting position twice.

        If you target yourself, you can channel the wind to hasten your movements. For the next 6 turns you gain 2 free moves per turn.

        This talent can be triggered by Eldritch Combat. When it is, you don't move anyone, but you get the free movements and both wind blasts will center on your position.

        Free Moves: You may move without spending energy the listed number of times. Free movement can be gained in two ways. Normal free moves allow a certain number of free moves per turn, but each free movement also lowers the duration of the effect by one. Bonus moves can be spent freely during the effect duration.

        Description: You discorporate into a bolt of lightning, teleporting to a new position you can see in range 6. You deal 66 Storm damage to every enemy between your start and end points, which also dazes for 3 turns.

        If you target your own position, you will instead shoot up into the clouds and strike back down at a random location within ten times the normal range (but always at least 15 tiles where possible). This increases the talent's Essence cost to 50 and causes the dazing Storm damage to affect a radius of 5 around you end point.

        This talent can be triggered by Eldritch Combat. When it is, you teleport up into the sky and back down to your original position, doubling the damage and duration and affecting a radius of 2 around you.

        Description: You have taken the principles of the Mage Knight fighting style - enhancing your combat ability by controlling the flow of magical energy through your body as you fight - and the intense control that Mage Knights develop over the forces they command, and taken them to their logical synergistic conclusion.

        While not fighting with it or busying yourself with complex powers, you are able to wield your equipped weapons at range. A Phoenix Knight wields them in conjured talons of fire. A Mind Knight wields them telekinetically. A Storm Knight controls them with wind. An Earth Knight uses terrakinesis to manipulate them. A Sea Knight wields them in tendrils of water. A Mana Knight conjures hands of arcane force to wield them with.

        Regardless of method, your dancing weapon attacks automatically once per turn. It does not attack in any turn that you make an attack or use a talent that costs a turn. It attacks the lowest-life target in range 3. It cannot attack targets who you moved away from since your last turn. It deals 30% normal weapon damage of your favored energy type, and its attacks can trigger Eldritch Combat, albeit at 30% normal power.

        Description: The iconic power of the Mage Knights, you channel the raw energy of your magic outwardly as you fight, saving the effort of taking active control of your power and allowing it to flow freely. Your channeled power is visible as a brightly colored aura around you.

        Your first successful melee attack each turn grants a 0% chance to trigger one of various Mage Knight talents instead of dealing the bonus damage. This reduces the cooldown of the talent to one-third normal and the Essence cost to one-fifth normal. The talent operates at two-thirds normal power. Triggered talents are determined randomly, but with prioritization based on how useful they are in the moment (spells that restore life are more likely to trigger when low on life, spells that attack multiple foes are more likely to trigger the more foes ar around, etc). Talents of higher talent level are generally prioritized over those of lower level.

        If you are wielding a two-handed weapon, triggered talents operate at full power.

        If you are using a shield, when you trigger a talent, you also have a 50% chance to automatically Block. Defensive talents have their priority increased when using a shield.

        If you are using two weapons, when you trigger a talent, you have a 50% chance to trigger the talent a second time at no further resource cost.

        If you are using a single one-handed weapon (or unarmed), your chance of triggering a talent is increased by half.

        Note that since Essence users rely on channeling minimal amounts of mana, but are able to combine them with mental and physical effort to produce potent magical effects, they don't receive the normal staff accuracy bonus. Instead, when wielding a staff, they deal bonus damage of their favored energy type equal to one-third their Magic stat plus two per point their Accuracy exceeds their target's Defense (short staves do not change this calculation).

        Description: You have placed runic wards on your skin that protect you from harm. Your wards can shrug off 6% of all incoming damage. Levels in the Thick Skin talent will deduct from this bonus.

        Your wards also rejuvenate energy quickly, reflected in a 6 bonus to life regeneration.

        Since your wards are runic in nature, their energy rejuvenation also applies to your inscriptions. Each turn you have a 4% chance to lower the cooldown of all of your runes and infusions by 1 and remove their saturation effects. Some of the energy absorbed by your wards also goes to facilitate this, increasing the chance by the percentage of your maximum life that has been lost (so if you're at half life, the chance would be increased by 50% to 6%).

        Description: You can channel magic through your weapon, or wield your weapon through your magic. When you use this attack, you wield your weapon by supernatural means. Phoenix Knight conjure talons of flame to hold their weapons. Mind Knights wield them telekinetically. Storm Knights manipulate currents of wind to wield them. Earth Knights control the wood, stone, and metal that makes them up directly. Sea Knights wield them in cohesive tendrils of water. Mana Knights project magical hands that wield them.

        Regardless of the method, this lets you attack an enemy at range 6 for 100% weapon damage. In addition, if the attack hits, it is guaranteed to trigger Eldritch Combat, and the prioritization factor increases by a power of 1.0, making the talents most useful in your current situation more likely to trigger.

        This talent also passively enhances your ability to channel power through your aura and weapons. While Eldritch Combat is active, you now shed light bright enough to illuminate all tiles in a 4 radius and reduce the Stealth and Invisibility of enemies within that radius by 10. Your melee attacks passively deal 8 additional damage of your favored energy type. Stealth and Invisibility reduction scale with Willpower and bonus damage scales with the better of Spellpower or Mindpower.
        Eldritch Strike

        Use mode: Passive
        Description: Essence is fundamentally a combination of Stamina, Psi, and Mana, combining physical, mental, and magical reserves into a single pool of energy. Marshalling all your energies together takes effort, but you are able to recover substantially faster than most. Your Essence regeneration improves by 1.0, scaling strongly with Willpower.

        In addition, when you pass a turn during combat (default hotkey 5) the brief rest combined with the high adrenaline allows you more opportunity to recover. You regain 2 life (based on your current life regeneration with a cap based on maximum life), 1 Essence (based on your current Essence regeneration), and have a 20% chance to lower the cooldown of all non-fixed cooldown talents by 1. You also gain an additional 6 Surge value that turn. This only works while there are enemies in your vicinity; if you're in a safe location, you don't have enough adrenaline pumping to receive the benefit. These values also scale with Willpower.

        -When armed with two weapons, they may both be one-handed weapons. For each dagger that you wield, your offhand damage modifier increases by 25% and your combat speed by 10% (if you wield a single dagger or a dagger with a shield this modifier will apply to the bonus attack from them as well).
        -When armed with a two-handed weapon, any time you attack you make a second attack for 25% normal damage.
        -When armed with a shield, any time you attack you also execute a shield bash for 50% normal damage.
        -When armed with a single weapon (or unarmed) any time you attack you also make an unarmed strike for 50% normal damage. When fully unarmed you get a +20% bonus to your combat speed.

        The damage bonuses don't stack with those from other mastery talents. The Accuracy and critical bonuses don't apply if you know the Combat Accuracy talent or if you have a Steam pool.
