Yeah I had to look it up to remember where that part of the quest was. Got it all wrong/conflated in my memory.

The optional death wyrms I've learned to skirt around. :) In fact I found with some care the treasure room wasn't too bad. Mainly drawing out some of the guys first was really helpful to not dying and as you said teleporting/phasing is really important.

Had Staff of Destruction this last game and basically that helped me walk through a good deal of the early East (Spiders, Wurm, Vor Armory) and was really pretty awesome against most of the backup guys.

My problem with my current Anorithil was not so much the build per se, I think but being completely unable to deal with certain things like shield piercing. I took your advice in chat and respecced my equip around criticals to match my skills and things looked up though I found Eye wasn't the boon I thought it would be. It did give me back moonlight a lot but most of the time it was superfluous.

I stripped my character down and put most of her items in the vault which I think you can see.

As for the skills take a look and tell me if I wasted anything. I felt like a few points were hard to figure out where to place them after I got 5/5s in some of the main ones.

One point about Barrier. I had Barrier at 5 on the last Anny I played and it was amazing. Sitting at around 650 points I think? SOmething like that. Might have had some aid from an item. It was my big shield and it was pretty decent for the most part. I think the main thing is some guys (Rares and Bosses) ignore shields entirely which means even with high con Annys do get squishy.

Bathe in Light as you say is awesome on max, but it is also double edged so I don't raise it much early game, allowing Escorts to up it for me (had 2 bonus points on this one.)

RE: Chant/Hymns. Yeah I went for the first Chant and the 3rd Hymn on this one and that worked OK. Having 53% resistance to Confusion and Stun is key for a lot of boss fights.

I will take a look at your winner later. Gotta get some food.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone that contributed positive advice and helpful commentary.

    作者可以诶考虑一下放到Steam上…我到现在才知道有汉化 Orz

  • Beta test of 1.3 has begun!   10 years 47 weeks ago

I don't know if I can play without addons. Who will target my spells for me? Who will remind me to switch to my offhand ranged weapon and reload it when I rest? Who will tweak the shops so that there is cooler stuff in them? Who will write down notes of where stuff is for me?

  • Ugh   10 years 47 weeks ago

I admit I usually ignore bathe in light because 1) it can heal your enemies and 2) the amounts are painfully low early on and I didn't realize it scaled up so well.

May have to try an anorithils again in 'light' of this new information, though I often die in that first boss encounter, it is surprisingly difficult.

Still, if the OP isn't doing this (and he isn't) then he is still squishy.

  • Allow Respec Anywhere   10 years 47 weeks ago

Nothing major. A minor update to the addon info text and uploaded to Steam workshop.

  • Ugh   10 years 47 weeks ago

Sorry guys, but that's off the mark. While it doesn't seem like it at first, Anorithils are far from squishy, just start using a shielding rune and Bathe In Light everytime you feel in danger, then enjoy some 2k shield on you. Every time you get the Light tree on a character you should always aim for at least 1/5/1/5. Healing Light is decent but not really worth some investment in it unless you got spare points. Barrier is just bad, as it wastes a turn and, while it can last 10 rounds, it will never do so as its base value is laughably low. Bathe In Light and Providence, on the other hand, are pure unadulterated gold. Also, Chant of Resistance + Thick Skin grants you 40+% resistance to all damage.
As for things damaging you out of LOS, yeah, you need either high light or infravision. Do note that Sun Flare, staves of illumination and Hymn of Detection are all good fits for that purpose.
Another thing, choose your main Hymn and main Chant beforehand and don't invest into any other ones, ever. Points put into other Chants or Hymns are just points you wasted.

You could look at my Anorithil win for more specific info, ( http://te4.org/characters/19173/tome/95240fcc-1df7-4e07-9657-50269367eca3 ) it did die against Linaniil but that's because I made some silly mistakes. Also, I had swapped some equipment out as I completed the game with the black robe and the staff of destruction, since as a Corona/Moonlight/sure spell crit build I wanted as many spell procs on as I could manage and, believe me, it was glorious.

  • Statistics updating again!   10 years 47 weeks ago

I would love to see stats regarding just winners though, rather than all characters played. Any chance, oh Darkgod?

  • Ugh   10 years 47 weeks ago

First off, resists do indeed help even if you have a shield up. Damage is calculated (including resists) before it is applied, and then applied to whatever it is supposed to apply to (shields, mana, psi, health, etc). So yes, the 15% all resist would indeed help some. Maybe not a ton, but some.

Second, it's (nearly) impossible to be hit from off screen. Opponents don't react to anything further than 10 tiles away, which also happens to be the (normal) maximum sight range, unless damaged. Might be further than your light is casting if you're somewhere that is relevant, or they may be invisible, but they won't simply be outside of what you can see (this is compounded by the fact that there are only a dozen or so abilities that can even hit outside 10 tiles.)

Overall I'd have to say I agree with the others though. Looks like you're largely a victim of not particularly great equipment drops combined with the fact that Anorithil are possibly the squishiest class in the game. I've never gotten far with them, but it always seems they rely on nuking the opponent before they even have a chance to react, which isn't too hard before the prides, but the prides are the first source of serious ranged enemies you have to deal with in the game, thus often being the breaking point for characters which were otherwise breezing through the game.

Wait - which wyrm are we talking about here? The room of death with all those particularly pumped up wyrms in the Vor Armoury basement is optional; you shouldn't have to enter it to find the athame. The main treasure room there is still pretty dangerous, but if you liberally apply some form of teleport when things start getting dicey, you shouldn't find it insurmountable.

The diamond is in the possession of the other wyrm, who isn't optional if you wish to return from the Far East.

  • Ugh   10 years 48 weeks ago

Are you sure that resists don't affect shields? Can anyone confirm this?

My brother was surprised that you made it this far because of your gear. You have some good items like your boots and your ring of warding, but your amulet, cloak, armor, gloves, belt and sneakthief ring don't do much for you in my opinion. Maybe he did not notice the Rune of Reflection you have. It's very good. Your Phase Door rune also seems very strong. I think I'd prefer a Healing Infusion and a Movement Infusion over your two other choices to have a more reliable escape and to avoid Runic Saturation.

It's hard to be sure without playing your character, but you do seem very squishy. I'd usually get more resists, but if they don't work with shields then I guess I'm shooting myself in the foot. lol

  • Ugh   10 years 48 weeks ago

Mmm the sadly was for 'sadly I can't help you there' -sorry if you took offense from that

Mostly seems to me like you got unlucky with gear.

Didn't really check or comment your skill build that much, barely play anorithil, not too sure where the points could have went if there was an alternative to corona, but ofcourse with that one, the more crit the better

As far as the wyrm goes, I find the prides safer than them so I go there after the prides generally :S Then again not sure if anorithil has an easier time there than my reavers do :S

  • Ugh   10 years 48 weeks ago

I am having the same experience with anorithil every time i make one. As far as i can tell, their defensive options are just crap, and you usually end up dying to "kinda" high burst, stuff which other classes can just erect their regular defenses for and be fine. I dont have much advice for you since my anorithils start failing once they go east as well, but i can say its not you thats the problem, its the class ;)

  • Ugh   10 years 48 weeks ago

I did farportal some. But it is extremely tedious, low in exp value and loot and long. So after the first couple I went back to playing without the grinding. Perhaps grinding is the answer to the problem I am facing though. Levels often do help where nothing else seems to.

  • Ugh   10 years 48 weeks ago

Some point by point responses (and questions) since you said a variety of things, not in any particular order.

    - Spider Lair is done.

    - BloodCaller does indeed work with spells. Maybe that was why I managed to get this far...(cf my remark on that below.)

    - Overpowered guy is Optional? except that you need the bloodruned athame which is in there...?

    - Killed so often by off screen attacks? Just once. Also not sure what you meant by "sadly". Do you mean it is sad that you don't know? or sad that it happened? Because the latter I agree with, with the caveat that any game death is "sad" because it means the player may give up and leave the game. Or I guess it could mean sad in the "that's so pathetic" sense of the word...

    - I get you think my build is terribad but so far until the far east the build was doing just fine. Not sure why you think it is amazing that I managed. I did wipe the floor with the orc ambush and pretty much every orc patrol that I could find. (A couple got away.)

    - I had a bad moment where I died in the melinda/cult thing because 12 blood mages surrounding me with no way out. But I am not sure that was a matter of build but the lack of preparedness for that particular situation/bad tactics.) And this is the same build that I won with a while ago, so I figured it would be fine.

    - I don't particularly like the blood moon/shalore crit bonus strategy. Corona 4 was a late addition because I wasn't sure where else to put the points. Not like there is a good build strategy to follow online.

    - Equip drops could have been better, that is the best hat Ive seen. (no armor skill for helms.) I could probably swap some stuff around as I packratted a lot of equip in the fortress that I wasn't sure of or where I needed a prequisite in case I got that prequisite later. But as I said drops have been pretty crappy. I assume that's just my personal luck allotment and everyone else always gets the golden gear suits as per need. Since roguelike and all. :p

I do have some elem resist rings/amulets but not sure what else that matters.

    - my main reason for this post was the complaint about excessive damage. As far as I can tell, resists wouldn't help that (because it seems they don't reduce damage absorbed by the shields) nor would doing extra criticals...Getting hit from multiple directions by damage exceeding 500 was more than I was expecting at this stage of the game. It has been a few years as I said since I played in the Far East (beyond the starting anorithil shalore zone there.) So maybe my expectations were a bit too low.

  • Ugh   10 years 48 weeks ago

Uhm just as a sidenote the overpowered wyrm is optional and you probably shouldn't attempt it unless you feel very strong in the other areas.

I'm not sure as to how you get killed so often by offscreen enemies sadly.

You should probably do the spider lair before the prides, its a bit easier.
And the wyrm after the prides -IF- you want to do it. Each pride has different types of monsters, try to target those with monsters that you can beat easily first (ex if you have high fire/water res, you could go for the one with the cryo/pyro-mancers)

As far as your character goes, I am amazed you got this far with your current equipment.
You don't have much elemental defense and crit which would be good with the 4 levels you have in corona (you should have invested a few points in the shalore crit bonus and blood red moon for it to proc more often)

Your current character relies on magic/spell power and cun/crit (spell crit) for damage.

You don't benefit from your belt (which gives mental crit, not spell crit), gloves which don't give you anything but resist to fire/dark) and your helm is a bit lackluster. Your boots give movement speed, might be useful for fleeing or moving in combat, or a specific place in the game... , but are a bit weak on your main stats, movement speed, just incase you didn't know, doesnt affect your casting time which still take a full turn. Edit - oh and your cloak seems to just give you 10 def/6 cun

I'm actually also not sure if your ring that does life leech works with spells (never tried so really just dunno).

  • Ugh   10 years 48 weeks ago

You could have unlocked Combat Training in Last Hope. I'm not sure if you can get the category now. Five points in Thick Skin would give you 15% resist all. Also, I have a Shalore which is just about ready to leave for the far east and he's level 34. You could use the Far Portal to gain levels if you did not do so. I'm not sure it's any safer though.

    Cursed - cursed touch
Draconian - learns the rest of their tree when they find their special scale

prodigies kind of don't have an undo button so I can see they'll take a bit. (Cloning the entire character build is a bit much without admin.)

Sorry I've been gone from developing (1.0.3) since around when my cat Blue had kittens and stuff.
