I registered 1 year ago. I never thought this game would evolve so quickly. Thumbs up.
archmage venture 4
Beat the Master. Unlocked Ghouls. He dropped the choker of dread! And a staff of absorption. Hey this looks handy, i can actually use it with a shield, i wonder why the item description says "i dare not use it myself". Oh well there are 2 vaults in the same level, i hope i won't die in there, some vaults are really hard. First vault was ok, second one is FULL of storm dragons accompagned with an elder wyrm that keeps churnign more, first turn i was surrounded by 4 drakelings, i should teleport and recall the hell outta here. But then again it's good XP. Blinded them, Inferno'd them from a distance, gained 1/3 of a level, picked up a LOT of gold from the spawned drakelings, got the achievement for 1 000 pieces. When the stream of drakelings ended i walked into the vault, saw the elite wyrm, cast some more blinds and flames, it veered off the end of my light radius, and when i dispatched it was nowhere to be found. Huh.
mbush! Dispatched of. Man, the scale Mail of Kroltar really was worth the Str investment. This staff must REALLY be important. A pity that when i first tried to use it i was silenced and nothing happened. I'll have to test what it does again. Waited ~400 turns. Oh, turns out it does nothing. And it uses up the 1000 turn timer. Great.
Oh hey i'm level 35 now, wow, 3 levels for killing the orc boss, not bad! I really don't know what to do with my generic points, i've maxed heal, Restoration and Nature's Call. And, to be perfectly honest, i totally forgot about them in this boss battle. Tidal Wave sure saved me though, i should try maxing it next.
Going back home to dump some stuff i run across a new dungeon called the spellblaze. No harm can come of this, i recently found the fire dragon shield, if there are blazes it should help. Wait, i got a random text message. I wonder what should i answer. Lol i ended up participating in a city siege! Well the corruptor guy died so this is pointless. At least some halfling dropped the Storm Bringer's Gauntles.
Meh, let's try those elven ruins instead. OK what the hell am i supposed to do with mummy wrappings?! Randomly found a fiery choker and the Bindings of the night at the third level. Oh, so wrappings is a kind of armor. No thanks, i'll stick with Kroltar thank you. Now the Fiery Choker lowers my cold resist but on the other hand the vampire ally has proved somewhat weak so far. Tough choice. Oh, well, found a portal to the surface. Looks like i killed a boss without kowing it. Guess it was one of those flamable mummies.
After visiting a couple of towns i lost the staff of absorption but i have e new dungeon to explore. Hope it's not too hard. It wasn't. Whoah, there's a blue @ following me! Oh, it just wants to chat and give me a scroll. Bah, i'll erad it later, there's still a room to explore. A bunch of portals and an artifact. Bah, it was an orange one. Let's read the scroll. Turns out i have to use the portal to go east.
Now i have to help an elf lady. I'm feeling quite railroaded. Personally elves have cost me far more lives than orcs and i'm inclined to wipe out the elf lady instead. But ok she unlocked a new class for me. OK, i'll let that slide. Look, a new world map. I should take a break.
archmage venture 3
The beast beast guarding the last floor of the lake was too powerful. Gotta level up a bit. Remembered i hadn't visitede Kor'pul. Piece of cake. All the way down the forest, then the lake, the second time the best fell without problems. Did the arena and the storming the city quest. The tempest went down easily - then i run into an elite storm drake that spawned a bazillion dragons who spawned drakelings. Took me 20 minutes to clear that mess. There's also a vault on this level. Illuminate's blind is really good in a tough spot. No loot of interest. Guess it's time to recall. Finished the apprentice task since i was in Angolwen. It's time to do the sandworm deathtrap. I should take a small brak first.
---
Cleared it without deaths. Unlocked the wyrmic class! Daikara level 1 i escorted a thief. Hard choices as usual. I remember last time i had picked disarm traps but that doesn't work unless you detect the trap first (obviously). So it's either detect traps or Heightened Senses. Bah, i'll get featherwind to level 4 soon, it says it can avoid some traps. I'll try Heightened Senses this time.
Found a temporal rift and unlocked the Temporal Warden class. Gained a couple of levels too, got Feather wind to level 4. I really don't know where to spend my class talent points anymore.
---
Unlocked the Yeek race. But i can't seem to be able to proceed down the tunnel. Visiting Dreadfell. Raided a vault, too much loot, gotta drop some stuff, hard choices, maybe i should put an extra point into featherwind. Why not put an extra point into illuminate while i'm at it.
Walked back to Sharatul to dump some blue stuff and ended up getting the crypt quest. Lost 5 lives because i went down the tairs without noticing the timers on illuminate and tidal wave hadn't cooled down. And i ended up faiiling the quest anyway. I'm bitter, calling it a day.
archmage venture 2
Got Penitence at Maze 5. Looks like a big upgrade from my ash staff of power.
Killed the minotaur and got to level 16. Fallen asleep onthe keyboard. Lost an escort quest to the Treant Boss and a bazillion of snakes. And a honey tree hiden behind the path's turn.
Finished the apprentice mage quest. Got a 8% fire magic ring. What a ripoff - what about the portal to angolwen? Doing the Tempest quest at level 19. Died to Urkis. Twice. He's followed me back to the respawn point, died thrice. Respawned with -98 life. Looks like i'm dying here. Teleported away, died a 4th to some out of screen elemental. Regeneration is still 11 turns away from refreshing and now teleport is unavailable too.
Sunk 5 points to flameshock hoping he'll get stunned. He did. Killed him, got to level 21. Now i know what flameshock is for - not the silly damage, for the stun duration. Dumped even more points in constitution and got Health to level 3. He dropped Eden's Guile. I guess i can kill what's left in this dungeon for experience. There's a big vault that smells of yet another death for me here. I'll leave it for last. Everything went well.
I'm still afraid of the sandworm lair so i'll try the underwater level first. found frost treads onthe way down. I can't decide whether it's better than ededn's guile. Bah, i don't have enough dexterity anyway.
Note: old forest level vaults seem to be safe. Died at lake of Nur 3 confused by unseen horrors offscreen and poisoned by a black mamba. found the entrance to sher'tul, killed the weirdling beast without any difficulty. There's some text and i don't really understand what's going on, the quest log says i have a butler now.
Oh, the storing room automatically stacks things, nice. I wonder what those two teleport runes do. I'll take the bottom one first. OK, both of them lead to the same place, weird. sorted my stuff out. Gotta find that other place, instead of the worm lair. Found an entrance to some elven ruins but my past experience with elves warns me to stay away from those. Same deal with the entrance to a ruined dungeon. Found daikara, it was to the east. Found a ring of the war master at level 3. I'm actually going to wear it, that's a lot of stats.
New version's out, rerolling. This time i grinded to level 4 before going to Trollmire 3 in order to get Manathrust, Flameshock, Freeze and Chain Lightning. And teleport, of course. Remapping keys.
Level 5 putting one point to manathrust one point to flameshock. Almost died to a vault of honey trees. Successfully escorted an alchemist. I STILL can't decide between +2 magic, imbue and stone touch. Meh, i'll go imbue this time - basically the way i see it a gem in a body armor = +1 to all stats = better than +2 to magic only. Stone touch... some other time.
Died to Bill. I had better luck (and more mana) the second time. He dropped Eden's Guile. Since i'm level 8 now, i'll pump manathrust to level 3 and dumpthe rest to flameshock. I'll try the maze before Kor'Pul this time. Oh, new tileset. Hard for the eyes.
Found a Vargh Redemption at Maze 3. Maze 5 Eel Armor. Died to the Minotaur. Looks like the Bosses are a bit harder in this version. Lol, he's using Wild AND Regeneration. No wonder i run out of mana without killing him. Ok, time to put those Unique Items and their abilities to good use. Nope, still dead. Screw this, i'm going back to the world map, it's impossible for me to kill him at the moment.
Went to the old forest. There's some fog or something, i'm having a hard time seeing the field. The game is hard on my eyes atm.
Also i think i messed up skill allocation once again - i maxed flameshock too early, that's why i don't have dps atm - i should have went for flame. Maybe i'll stop doing cornac mages and try some of the other races too.
Nah, after 5 minutes playing a Higher i find that one extra teleport slot beats their racial ability.
Found a paladin escort quest - once again i'm at a loss concerning which reward to choose. I don't want to end up with +2 strength again. Chose chant of Fortitude - maybe it'll help me resist stun effects.
The fog effect really makes it impossible to see where monsters are in the old forest. Died to an extra (on-screen but invisible due to the fog) luminous horror while escorting a suicidal alchemist. A pity, i wanted to try stone touch this time. Henceforth i'll just browse the net while waiting for the fog effects to clear. Wrathroot dropped Frost Treads. guess i gotta dump some points into dex.
Continued to the underground lake. No problem, i've done this before, hit the orb of recall the moment i enter the water, do a couple of random teleports until i map the place to find the door. Why it's even easier now, there's air bubbles! Why don't i hit the R button to rest just one turn to wait for the manasurge timer to reach zero and replenish my mana for another phase door?
Little did i know the air bubble had deplated the previous turn. I rested myself to death. I am VERY bitter. Calling this a night.
archmage venture 1
Made an archmage.
Escorted a warrior at trollmire 4. Chose +2 strength. Trollmire 5 lost my escort. At least i managed to kill bill (no pun intended) with some kiting. Wow, he bumped me from level 3 to level 7!
Died stubboringly to skeleton mages at Korpul level 2.
Created a rogue - got bored fast. Created an archmage - this time died in disbelief to Bill. Next time i'll wait for level 4 and teleport.
Archmage again. Escorted an alchemist in Trollmire 2. Tough choice. I'd love Stone Touch but it costs 80 mana! Imbue item requires gems and who knows if i'll find any? Channel Staff seems nice but what if i find a nice shield? Bah, +2 to magic it is.
Just noticed i only have 35 mana - seems like the RNG screwed me during character generation. Nope, it turns out it's from sustaining arcane power level 5.
Rescued a warrior at Korpul level 2 for 2 strength. Level 3, another warrior, another 2 points of Strength.
At Korpul 3 a skeleton warrior resisted freeze, stuned me and proceeded to whack me till i was dead. Totally forgot about tidal wave. Remapped keys.
Too scared to visit level 5. Died to a trap while running away from the shade. Bah, i should have stayed put, tidal wave worked fine on him - dunno why Strike didn't. Level 11 now.
Old Forest 2 - noticed that when my mana got too low my sustained spells disappeared. Old forest 3 killed a bazillion wolves. Old forest 4: yet another warrior escort. My strength is as high as my willpower now.
Apparently i had the Skin of Many unidentified in my inventory for some time now. Didn't prevent a Naga Myrmidon from killing me at old forest level 6.
Killed Treeroot. Dropped Penitence but i alrady had Kor's Fall (bought it for a measly 5 gold!)
Sunk a bunch of points to get Nature's Call. I haven't seen it hit an enemy yet. Oh well, i'm still learning.
Calling it a night before the storm quest. Next day - i'll park this archamge and start another one since i'm not happy with the way i distributed talent points - i should have picked one of the seer's talents instead!
I keep getting warrior escort quests - this time Trollmire 3 - for +2 strength. I realized that by impatiently sinking all my points to Flame in order to get it to become a beam i am now level 4 without teleport. So i'll have to wait a bit more before i face Bill.
Hit level 5 just after descending the stairs to Trollmire 5. Got Teleport, Freeze and Manathrust. I hope i won't die to Bill this time. I didn't. He dropped the Burninator. It packs a punch but it wastes a turn. Might be useful to clear honey tree clumps in the old forst. There's a vault over here but i'll visit the town first, i'm going to be careful this time, a little backtracking won't hurt. While diving back to finish the vault i found a bright dwarven lamp.
I noticed that my spells mana cost keeps increasing. And now there's this message "Lucinda's spells looks more powerful". Do they scale by use? By some stat?
Went to Last Hope, bought Martial Training, dumped all my remaining points to constitution and got level 1 Health. Went from 163 to 268 hitpoints. Going back to Korpul, I found a hidden trap door but i won't pursue the quest.
Found a summertide Phial but my dwarven lamp is brighter. Found an orange bow that had "Damage on hit(melee) : 5 poison" o_0
Note to self : tidal wave hurts escorted allies! It does turn The Shade visible though. The anorithil finally died after walking into 2 red traps. Oh well at least i got to level 11. Found a thief in Old Forest 4. Got another Trap Disarm. Found a +22% nature resist at Old Forest 4. That'll be handy against the dungeon boss.
He went down fast. I'm doing the maze now but i'm starting to have too many unique items. I'm dropping Bill's trunk at trollmire 1. Put 2 points in Strength and got heavy armour talent, just in case.
This is the end of my extended weekend, maybe i'll be able to play some more next week. All in all, a great experience.
arcane experience 3
Reorganized talents a bit. Helped out an injured Loremaster. I'm given a choice between Disarm, a melee skill, and 2 ranged skills. Mind Sear's cooldown of 2 looks awesome but my failed attempt at a wilder summoner has left me with a bad impression of equilibrium-related skills. Disarm it is then.
As a sidenote, the sucessful quest completition text reads "press j to read the quest log" even though i've since mapped the quest log to Q. Same happens when i press = btw, i get "hotkey not defined - tou may define a hotkey by pressing m and following the instructions there" even though i've since mapped the talent bar to S.
Since i'm nitpicking - it would be great if i were given an indicationt hat talent catagories can be imprived only once. Oh well.
Almost got killed while alt-tabbing: i hit the teleport skill instead of remapping it. Looks like the game requires me to click ont he taskbar.
Run into a glade with 4 honey trees. I've been hacking bees and bears for 10 minutes now. Make that 15. My reward was an orange pointy har called Pitchfurnace. I'll be keeping my rough leather cap of 20% resist stun.
Found a house full of cutpurses. Hah! I far- er, flame at your general direction.
Failed an escort mission: the NPC was suicidal, run straight into a glade of honey trees. I did my best but once he was down i teleported outta there asap.
Gah, failed another one, 2 squares away from the portal. I hate sand drakes. My @ icon keeps disappearing after i recover from blindness.
Got a third escort mission in a row. I better not fail this one! ...died from poison 3 steps away from the stairs. Oh looks, it's the dungeon boss. No wonder. A part of the screen turned blue and i died again.
This time when i saw the blue spell i climbed up the stairs to rest. When i came back the spell was still there. Thankfully Stunning Blow managed to stun the monster and gave me the time needed to finish it. It dropped a pair of boots called frost treads. Had to dump 3 points into dex to wear them. +1 Light radius, nice. Would hae preferred the extra 2 lives though.
Came back to the town - elemental time. It takes 2 flame spells to take them down. With a bit of dancing around house corners i managed to take even the big one. Now to see how Angolwen's jewlery shop works.
Gah, the staff shop had Gwai's Burninator! That would have been handy 5 minutes ago against the elementals. Oh well, i can spare 50 gold, let's try this on other, innocent creatures.
Made an opal ring int he process, much better than the +3 con stitution one i've been wearing for ages now. Let's hit the maze next door. Found a Behemoth Hide at the 2nd level. This is fast,i just keep clicking towards the bottom right and mow down everything. One creature at a time makes this a piece of cake. At level 5 i found an orange armor but it's no match for the Behemoth. Found an orange dagger too.
Wait, did i just kill the dungeon boss? he dropped the steel helm of garkul. I guess i have to put a point in heavy armour now. Finally, this last level up allowed me to have enough Strength to equip that voratum greatsword i've been lugging around. Let's find the teleport rune back to the surface.
Angolwen is selling interesting amulets but i prefer my current one. According to the quest log i have to visit the sandworm tunnels now but since my previosu character died there i'll for the hidden city mentioned in the "storming the city" quest. WHile searchign for it i run into the thieves/merchant quest. So i went to Last Hope to see how he was doing after rescuing him. His shop is kind of... random.
Hey it turns out Angolwen was the city mentioned inthe quest. Duh. The head-honcho teleported me to a mountaintop - wow, lotsa lighting-themed enemies around here. Fiery Hands & Flame to the rescue. Is there a recall rune in this level? Oh well, rod of recall, back to Derth, they seem to be doing fine. No new entries in the questlog - but i don't want to do the sandworms!
A random wolf ambush bumped me to level 20. Looks like i'll buy that divination telent category afterall. Run into a crypt. Nothing bad can come out of this. Died after 10 turns to some disease spell. Died again. Noticing that the orb of recall is still recharging.
Managed to survive the level. Felt reassured and went down the stairs. Lost my remaining two lives in a couple of rounds. Next time i'll be less cocky and stick to the questlog order.
On the positive side i unlocked the storm wizard class, i'll give it a go next time.
arcane experience 2
Note: very weird, i can edit comments but not actual blog posts. Apologies, i'll dump this over here:
Killed Bill the Troll and gained 3 levels in a row. He gave me another orange belt. I think i prefer my girdle of power to this girdle of calm waters.
Went back to town to sell some stuff then entered the nearby ruins. Stumbled upon a phial of darkness ont he first level.
Level 8 died to skeleton mages guarding a locked room.
Stuck a class point to arcane dexterity. The effect on Flame and Lightning spell damage was minimal.
Turns out there's still wizards around, they live in a town called Angolwen. Better check it out. Bought a nice Healing infusion to replace the Regeneration one.
Run into another injured seer. I wonder what will happen if i take the same reward twice? Will it stack or will the reward be completely wasted? Woops, looks like it's wasted. Meh, that could have been +4 to magic.
Something blinded me and i died next turn. When i resurrected i was still blinded. Oh, it's a sand drake. Well hello there, what are you doing at level 2 of Kor'pul? He breathes sand which blinds me again. 4 turns after i can see again. Well, sort of, i can't see my @ icon. Time to dump some points into constitution; i pump it to 23 to enable the generic talent "Health".
Note to self: when resurecting, remember to switch arcane combat on.
Leveled up; put some points into strength to unlock arcane feed. I wonder if i can have 2 sustained talents working at the same time. Turns out i can. Great, less manasurge rune micromanagement.
Bah, two levels doswn i'm still using manasurge like crazy. Also i found a second Wintertide Phial. Guss i'll be selling this one. Or both - i find this dwarven lamp i found much more convenient.
Saw an spider, moved in to whack it. It had some nasty spells. Turns out it was the dungeon boss, called Shade. That healing rune i bought from Angolwen really came handy. It dropped a feathersteel amulet. Looks like i won't be having any encumburance problems with this character.
Level 12: realized i have a category point. Gain access to conveyance. Pumped magic enough to learn teleport. Maxed Fire & Lightning with the remaining class points. Feeling quite mighty atm!
arcane experience
Made an alchemist. Saw he has a mandatory golem pet and scrapped him.
Made a fighter but he died at level 1. On the plus side i now know i can't go upstairs to the map while poisoned.
Made an archer. I don't know where to put talent points to make him any different from my dead slinger.
Made an arcane blade. Still having trouble seeing where i should spent talent points but at least they are different than those of the archer/slinger. I'll stick with that atm. Hope i won't get killed in level 1 this time.
As a sidenote a "random" option wouldn't hurt.
Put the extra category level into magical combat and pumped arcane combat to 5/5. Died at level 4 to rattlesnake.
Apparently at level 5 i get 2 class skills. I put 1 into flame and 1 into lightning.
Run into a seer lost in the woods. He's offered some training for helping him out. Picked the divination category reward. The category is still grayed out and i can't put any points in the skills. I don't get it.
telefragged
Run into the worm queen right next to the stairs. I managed to nail her while blinded but got killed in the process. When i respawned i got instakilled. Respawn, instakill again. And again. In a wtf moment i stopped hitting the respawn button - the worms continued to move around while i was dead?!
I waited it out, once they dispersed i managed to somehow get up the stairs. Noticed i had zero (0) health. Rested, got downstairs, killed the rest of the worms, the quitems were gone.
I lost my final two lives buried in crumbling tunnels while searching for the teleport exit.
Adding insult to injury, the wilder summoner istarted died before reaching level 2.
it's quite dark
I think i'm in a maze. Doesn't look like the "secret town to the southwest" to me...
