It took me a while to figure it out too
Don't know how it is in the very newest version, but in .18 I would simply lead her back behind the pillar where you start out, and then teleport away. She would stay there while I could clear a path through the crypt at leisure. Worked well enough.
Had an archmage in .19, by the way, who somehow reached level 30 when quest was first offered. And he _failed_, the acolytes had too many hitpoints to kill in the timeframe. I did not run to heal or anything, stood bravely and poured spells into them, had an area spell too but to no avail. R.I.P girl.
Thanks sooooooo much!
Not really - he nuked a single d - that's hardly an achievement.
I saved her with my Summoner (being careful to have a few summons before going down the stairs).
But while I had a heal other talent, instead I used the talent to reveal the map from afar. Then it was a simple but tedious case of tunneling to the stairs.
Her favorite trick was swinging in front of me while I was trying to distance summon something to save our lives. Which meant I got to switch places with her, eat a spell, and then summon my blocker. If I couldn't have healed her with nature spells it would have been impossible.
I was on top of the world with my level 19 zerker. He was unstoppable, until some unsavory knockback landed him into the sand and sealed my fate.
My first time ever being to that place, so now I know for next time.
My only character who ever managed to kill the 4 cultists within 30 turns was an archer. But then Melinda got killed when we were attempting to find the exit. Apparently being a prisoner of deranged cultists had sucked out her will to live. Or maybe she had Stockholm syndrome. She seemed to like taking arrows meant for cultists.
Thanks for the hint!
You could also dig your own way out if you have a pick-axe or Burrow talent. (probably, anyway - never tried)
Without phase door or teleport, if you get buried all you can do is wait for one of the worms to dig an empty space out next to you.
Wait one turn by pressing "5" on the keypad.
Not suffocating after resurrection does sound like a bug, but at least it wasn't hurting you. :)
-One character died to a glitch ad mentioned here: http://te4.org/blogs/pteriforever/2011/02/silvertail-level-18-cornac-berserker
-Two characters later, I died after forgetting what my keys were after all the text that told me what powers I had and what keys to use totally vanished. I could still access the other tabs, just not the talents one. Oh, and the square things around all the characters and enemies vanished.
-My most recent character has a problem whee several windows -- Levelup window, inventory, and so on -- would have white backgrounds making the text totally unrteadable.
The latter two may be problems with my own computer, but it still seems like a pretty unstable game -- After 20 beta tests it should be mostly stable.
It also runs freakishly slow for being a relatively graphics-light game.
Catalepsy and cyst burst will give you even more aoe and sick control.
Reavers have it far worse, I'd love to see drain life not be draining 0 life for every kill. :O
Nvm, found him. He was confined in the trees.
Yeah, about Bill...
How do I find him? I've been walking around Trollmire 5 with my Cornac Berserker for easily ten or twenty minutes. I have all five tattered paper scraps. Do I need part 2 of the trollish poem too for him to appear? Should I try PD-ing into every remaining block of undiscovered area? What do I do?
I love graphs, and especially these ones with the amount of eyecandy they provide. Good time wasters for sure!
Might I suggest a logarithmic scale considering almost all of the graphs are inverse relationships which makes it very difficult to look at the later levels.
Those graphs are gorgeous. And the Yeek one, considering it mostly contains b19 characters (I assume), is hilarious.
I have created 12 characters since i first used an online profile and i guess i created another 30 or 40 before that. Wouldn't place it anything higher than 50. Most of them died whilei was figuring hte controls, trying to figure out which dungeons i should enter, why i should desperately look for stun resist granting items, why i should run away from skeleton mages if underleveled etc.
But to be honest it's been only 3 characters i've started taking things seriously, focusing on 1 class at a time (archmage in this case), creating an spreadsheet to track my talent distribution and eventually optimize it when i die (third time seems to be workign better), using the search forum's function to look for past other players' past experiences etc.
So, no, i'm no natural at roguelikes, i've yet to beat any. But Tome4 is taking it easy on me, no food counter & the option of having some additional lives in case of a momentary lack of attention and/or an small error of judgment, that's quite lenient.
Because erm... you're supposed to DIE against the ambush, not on your first time there kill the whole thing. LOL
Anyway, well done, you have to take the staff back to Last Hope. Though I am thinking your character may want to keep hold of it, you can't... it's THE PLOT PIECE. But without it you wont be able to continue the game.
So well played, and good luck going forward, sounds like you are a natural at roguelikes. Well done.
The link to the howto-guides leads to an empty page. I could have sworn it worked before.
Great roguelike creator may not be great roguelike player :)
Thank you, that makes sense!
If you are a yeek you can take the tunnel, otherwise not. The thing is the yeeks "mentally" disallow you to go through the tunnel, but the message could be more clear to indicate that you CANNOT go through the tunnel this game.
The Berserk talent improves your stun resistance, but the cost (-10 armour and -10 defense) is pretty heavy. Increase Con and the Health talent for more hitpoints, and improve and use Ice Skin.
You can wear a second ring. Spend the 417 gp for better gear, e.g. your amulet, cloak and hat could use an upgrade (unless you intend to buy an artifact for 500 gp). Try to collect some rings and amulets for swapping.
But beware, in a few levels you can get a nasty and deadly encounter while travelling.
