Maybe pfhyyhtsche is right. As I wrote, it was my first thought.. especially because of Trollmire. Let's see if that will change.
I also went to the first dungeon, and, because you mentioned it, there I thought fast travel would have been very useful. Marching manually from stairs to stairs, when leaving the dungeon or getting to the deepest previously visited level again, is just very unexpected micro-management, which takes too much time in my opinion.
Calling someone "Copycat" because s/he implemented a feature from another open-source software is stupid. The idea behind all this open-source stuff is for others to use it and/or advance it!
Cheers!
OVH (http://www.ovh.com); the server is the 16G listed there: http://www.kimsufi.com/fr/
Out of curiousity, who is the hosting provider?
I don't think autoexplore is appropriate for ToME. DCSS needs autoexplore because it has very large, open, same-y floors, and lots of them. I enjoy playing DCSS but it is a different experience from most other roguelikes, in that the player rapidly jumps from significant event to significant event (via autoexplore, fast travel to branches or stashes, using the find feature to search for relevant drops). In my opinion DCSS is very focused on one aspect of roguelikes, it is like a "kick down the door" D&D campaign: the player is focused on "kill things/don't die" and anything in between is a waste of time meant to be skipped through. ToME has much less "empty space" than DCSS, with the exception of maybe the trollmire exploration is never tedious, while in DCSS I would die of boredom without autoexplore.
This is not a bad thing, it is simply a design choice. ToME has a different design: the presence of a world map and game lore, with meaningful dungeons and bosses within that world (not to mention quests), make the game not just about "kill things/don't die". The player is experiencing their own story in a game world. Autoexplore and fast travel are not only unnecessary for ToME but they would detract from this world experience, not to mention trivializing certain aspects of the game such as maze dungeons.
I don't think ToME "needs" it, but you're not alone in wanting this feature (I've seen a few posts about this), and IMO it would be nice.
Is autoexplore a common feature in roguelikes? I'd hate for Darkgod to implement such a thing just to get barraged by comments such as "copycat!"... I think he's already had a lot of that in the past if I'm not mistaken.
I am very excited about MoRE, but i have heard not a peep in almost a week. ill omen?
Donated, after a few unsuccessful attempts over the last few weeks.
Thanks for all the hard work!
new classes skill tress and races!! yup:) im looking forward to this to. let me say thanks preemptively for all the hard work im sure your putting into this:)
Looking awesome!
Pyris311 it's for all donators, future or past.
Neato. And the @ with the hats? Awesome. Is this only for people that have already donated or will future donators get the same?
Ah yes this tree was fun to right. These talent will produce effects that will spread depending what is around them but will weaken. Remember theses talents are really dangerous in closed areas.
Congrats! :)
Heh, that happened with my Dwarven Fighter, on his Chant of Fortitude. Thankfully it was only going out a tile or two from him, and when he took CoF down and then back up, it went back to normal.
you have convinced me to care about MoRE, i am very excited to see what you do with this
Should the full details on the "the Brotherhood of Alchemists" quest be put here?
At the very least, it would be nice to know what areas the hermit spawns in (I've seen him in three locations: north of the Sandworm den, down one river in mid-Maj'Eyal, and somewhere up north), what each elixir does, and how the quest progresses as you get more elixirs (not sure myself, having not completed it yet.)
Elixirs:
In Elvala; there is:
Mysitcism: +3 Magic, +3 Willpower (someone: does this add to base, or adjusted)
Savior: +4 to all saving throws
Mastery: +4 Stat points
In Derth:
Fox: +3 Dexterity, +3 Cunning
Avoidance: +6 Defense, +6 Ranged Defense
Precision: +4% Physical Crit
In Last Hope:
Brawn: +3 Strength, +3 Constitution
Stoneskin: +4 armor
Foundations: +2 Generic Talent points
Hermit:
Explosive Force: +4% Magic Crit
Serendipity: +5 Luck
Focus: +2 Class Talent points
Oh, I forgot to mention, the Yeek town did not give me the option to enter it, so I could not sell anything from my full inventory. This was a real problem when the Hive Mother hit me with a weakness disease.
The stairs never appeared, but the level above re-spawned monsters. After many times going back and forth between levels, hoping I had missed something, the re-spawns finally put a permanent end to my warrior's search for an escape. He will be remembered.
I haven't fought a boss yet. I know the purple exit portal does not appear on the map, but the boss has yet to present itself.
Once fonts are replaced by Japanese fonts, Tome4 can display almost all contents as Japanese, for example chats, lores, texts, names of objects, descriptions of talents. I think names of talents can not be changed, but Tome4 can be playable for Japanese if some descriptions in lua files are translated.
The exit appears when you kill the boss... Did you mean that you have killed the boss?
Well yes although I doubt it is really feasible, the game is not at all made with I18N in mind, strings are all over the place
I can't use the keypad to move, whether numlock is on or off, I can't even rebind keys from the options menu.
This is on Linux, Ubuntu 10.04. Standard US keyboard layout, except that Caps Lock is bound as a second left Control key. It worked fine under beta 23 (last time I really played.) Did anything change regarding keyboard input in that time?
It is lot of fun to play Tome.
I would like to translate the game into Japanese.
I am wondering if you give me permission to make a patch.
Nice!!!!
Looks really good right now...this should make things much easier...although please make the description scrollable...
@pyris311: You should note the construct race already, as for class...take a careful look when the class selection is at Wilder group...
