FM says goodbye for now

Due to outside influences I am unable to spend much, if at all any time here for an extended period; most likely minimally a month, extending until about June. Do no worry, anything that could go wrong already has, so things can only improve for myself and my wife from this point forth.

My general contributions that I have plans for working on/am working on/are finished are thusly, put on hold. Here is a brief list of the projects I have currently and their status of completion:

Character Build Guides - 80% done [all but mindslayer, doomed, temporal warden, corrupters, summoners and reavers are 100% done, while these are at about 65% each]

The Order - This is my module using t-engine 4 and is currently not open to outside play, and unfortunately moving extremely slowly mostly due to my own incompetence. Weather this game will ever be released in even an alpha stage, remains to be seen.

Item Sets - I am the creator of Star and Moon, and the ideas of creating a 'pair' or 'set' out of them [with help from edge, Het, yufra, Zonk and ofcourse, DarkGod], and I have many other set ideas and plans in the works - however as these are generally more complex than Star/Moon or with unique/exotic abilities, they require much more code and much more testing [those of you that paid attention/were in the know may have noticed that the Star/Moon pairing went through more than 5 ... stages before they were finally deemed functioning].

Champion of the Arena Guide - I, being a very avid fan and beta tester for the Arena [thanks Het], have began writing a guide or short series of guides to the Arena mode itself, especially as it is so drastically different from the main campaign. This is one of my more recent projects however it is progressing very quickly. Depending on my available time, this might get published before my departure, however, do not expect as such.

Racial Talent Trees - This was something that was generally brought up and was kind of asked/forced upon me by several people and I attempted to deliver a general and sweeping lore filled tree for each race. With the lack of feedback from players and developers I feel that this may have been a wasted effort however I will, eventually, attempt to code the trees out completely and implement them myself.

Redesigning the weapons - Yesterday I took on the task to differentiate the various weapons in t4 as many are extremely similar to each other. In place, I have attempted to add in a sense of being and flavor to the core of the weapons themselves, adding in values to make each weapon be unique enough that picking the one with the highest damage value isn't always the 'best' choice, while not making the weapons too closed to be useful in very few situations.

- = The character build guides was one of my original projects that had some favor to the community, and had help grant me a title similar to " Keeper of the Tomes of TOME " ; and have unfortunately not been posted outside of 2 of them. The reasoning behind this is mostly due to the fact of how quickly the guides were getting obsolete - it would take me about a week to fully write a really good, in depth guide [more so than the 2 already posted, these guides have/had everything I could possibly think of] - however by the time I had it written and formatted to be posted - some change was announced or some such that pretty much made the guide not accurate anymore to the point that a rewrite would have been the best option. I will not abandon this project, but don't expect them until a full release or a damn near full release is out there. - =

- = Item Sets currently planned are a massive armor set using Head, Body, Hand, Feet that grant various powers based on which parts of the kit you have equipped, and is by far the most complicated thing I have attempted to code, in fact, the Body part can be found as Coltuur in the artifact/egos thread. I also have a Cloak & Dagger set planned, Greatmaul, Hand, Cloak set, Ring, Ring Amulet set, and a Sling & Shield set all planned and some partially coded - however these are taking a backseat while I am gone. - =

- = Champions of the Arena: A Guide for Tactical Play - is the Arena mode focused guide that I began to write about a month ago. As the mode is so drastically different than the main campaign in t4, while presenting a different array and kinds of challenges, along with forcing a different play style and generally different character growths, I thought a guide for the arena might be in order. Be a generalist guide, it is mostly a FAQ and Tips & Tricks style work with common play tips such as fighting as few at a time as you can and killing off the higher valued targets first [and telling you which those are at the various waves]. - =

- = Racial Talent Trees was one of the major changes/improvements I was looking forward to with contributing to the game, however with my general lack of understanding how t4 does math, and the lack of feedback on the trees themselves [other than screaming that 1 tree in particular people think is overpowered or stupidly underpowered {Cornac}] I was greatly disheartened at the lack of further development that was brought to them. I still really think that having racial trees will, in the end, benefit t4 in many ways, however as people seem generally content without them currently, this is clearly a dead project - =

- = Redesigning the weapons is, at this time, complete outside of making certain weapon only egos; and as such, will be sent to DG soon. Depending on the feedback of these changes, I will continue on and definitely finish this project before my absence. - =

Thanks to all the good people here and the friends I have made while I have been here - I will be back, but I will miss you guys, the community, while I am away.

Disappearing talents window text

This is a weird graphical glitch I've run into about five times now. Sometimes, seemingly at random, all the text in the talents tab down at the bottom right disappears -- I can still use my talents and hotkeys, but it's freakishly inconvenient. I've had about two of my chracters die after forgetting what was assigned to what key.

Sometimes the text comes back and disappears again, but usually it's permanently gone. The weirdest thing of all is that it appears to be tied to my save file -- If a character's text is missing, it doesn't mean thatit'll be missing on your other charatcers too.

What's going on? Is this what using infusions while suffering from infusion saturation does? Is it even a glitch? Can I get rid of it? Once the text came back after I added an infusion to one of my empty slots.

Whatever it is, it's a real pain.

"Novice Mage kills dragon."

I saw a dragon approaching me in the world map, so I hid behind the novice mage... and he killed it!

I definitely think he's set to be accepted to Angolwen....

Finally Saved the Girl

Finally saved Melinda from the corrupters, that damn quest has claimed more characters pride than any other. I think half of them die with that ignored scream still ringing in their ears. Level 23 Yeek summoner finally did it. The combination of dominate will and the ability to tie up multiple groups at once got me down to the girl and getting her out again was just a matter of safe summoning around corners to check for baddies. This dungeon made me fall in love with dominate, getting two companions out in the first actions was crucial to just about every encounter. It also made me realize the points I spent in war hound were a waste, the poor guys life doesn't scale at all. Even with maxed resilience he only has 196 which lets him pull off one hit before being toasted. All in all it was a lot of fun, and the most tense I've ever been during a video game.

Silvertail the Level 18 Cornac Berserker

Ok, I'm pretty upset about this. I dunno if this is intentional or a well-known glitch or what, but I had just entered the sandworm nest when I had the tunnel collapse on me and died. Fair enough, but then I resurrected and was metaphorically turned into a fossilised vegetable. I was stuck in a sand wall, but my character never got a turn. The only thing I could do was manage my inventory. My character just sat there, unable to do anything, still trapped, for some reason never suffocating. Just watching the days fly by for all eternity. If I hadn't taken antimagic immediately beforehand I could've used my Rod of Recall, but given how the rest of my items were acting I doubt if it would've helped.

If it helps, I'm using version 3.9.20.

Sparky the Shalore Archmage

I've been starting characters in Roguelike instead of Adventure mode, since I felt I was getting sloppy with the extra lives. Well, I'm still getting sloppy, as Sparky the Shalore Archmage can attest.

Confronted by Wrathroot at the bottom of the Old Forest, I managed to hit him with a Flameshock to stun him for what, two turns? Except that you can only use one of those turns. Put two attacks in a row and the big # gets to move after your second turn. And then it was freeze, and then Stun, and hit and hit and then freeze again and poor Sparky is history.

Part of the problem was not maxxing the big three attack spells: Flame, Lightning and Manathrust. I knew I wasn't putting out enough damage, I should have gone grinding levels until I had at least Flame and Lightning maxxed.

Second part of the problem was I didn't try to Freeze W or teleport away again instead of hitting him with that last Manathrust. I knew it wasn't going to kill him, and I know about the 'one less safe turn' for stun duration. But I wasn't thinking ahead.

Third part of the problem, I was impatient. I had already teleported off one time and he was almost completely regenn'ed before he found me again. So I thought I would risk one more hit. Whoops.

Thoughts on corruptors

Well after losing several characters and lives to elven blood mages and orc corruptors I figured it was time to try one (or a few as is the case). The first thing I found out was that willpower was useless. Despite the fact that their primary stats are Magic and Will, it more along the lines of Magic and Con. beginning game was the most annoying part to date. At that level the character has one way to gain Vim (blood sacrifice) and it only gives you 20-30 at early level and 20-30 is 1-2 spells (maybe three weak ones). blood sacrifice also has a 25 turn cool down so fights involve lots of running. Once drain is available this isn't so bad.
corruptors can hit really hard as most characters that have reached the far east have found out. They are generally better with bolt spells but they can do a respectable amount of AOE with the blood tree. The biggest problem is crowd control but I believe the curse and hex tree fills that role (also diseases) but I have not invested in them.
The blood tree is the best tree for corruptors. blood spray is a large cone attack that has a high chance on infecting the targets with disease. The really great thing about blood spray is at talent level 5 it has range 11. since LOS has been reduced to 10 it is now possible to fire outside you LOS. If you also have boots of speed you can do this almost indefinitely (this is how I killed the master).

I ramble more later about this as I get to the far east

Oh pretty graphs! Realtime statistics by levels and class/race/...

Hi,

I just added a new feature to te4.org which uses the existing database of characters to offer statistic graphs of those characters split by levels.

I.e: you can check how many Archmages reach level 10 or compare the death curve of Cursed and Berserkers or .../
Well you get the point!

Check it out: http://te4.org/realtime-statistics-levels

archmage venture 4

Beat the Master. Unlocked Ghouls. He dropped the choker of dread! And a staff of absorption. Hey this looks handy, i can actually use it with a shield, i wonder why the item description says "i dare not use it myself". Oh well there are 2 vaults in the same level, i hope i won't die in there, some vaults are really hard. First vault was ok, second one is FULL of storm dragons accompagned with an elder wyrm that keeps churnign more, first turn i was surrounded by 4 drakelings, i should teleport and recall the hell outta here. But then again it's good XP. Blinded them, Inferno'd them from a distance, gained 1/3 of a level, picked up a LOT of gold from the spawned drakelings, got the achievement for 1 000 pieces. When the stream of drakelings ended i walked into the vault, saw the elite wyrm, cast some more blinds and flames, it veered off the end of my light radius, and when i dispatched it was nowhere to be found. Huh.

mbush! Dispatched of. Man, the scale Mail of Kroltar really was worth the Str investment. This staff must REALLY be important. A pity that when i first tried to use it i was silenced and nothing happened. I'll have to test what it does again. Waited ~400 turns. Oh, turns out it does nothing. And it uses up the 1000 turn timer. Great.

Oh hey i'm level 35 now, wow, 3 levels for killing the orc boss, not bad! I really don't know what to do with my generic points, i've maxed heal, Restoration and Nature's Call. And, to be perfectly honest, i totally forgot about them in this boss battle. Tidal Wave sure saved me though, i should try maxing it next.

Going back home to dump some stuff i run across a new dungeon called the spellblaze. No harm can come of this, i recently found the fire dragon shield, if there are blazes it should help. Wait, i got a random text message. I wonder what should i answer. Lol i ended up participating in a city siege! Well the corruptor guy died so this is pointless. At least some halfling dropped the Storm Bringer's Gauntles.

Meh, let's try those elven ruins instead. OK what the hell am i supposed to do with mummy wrappings?! Randomly found a fiery choker and the Bindings of the night at the third level. Oh, so wrappings is a kind of armor. No thanks, i'll stick with Kroltar thank you. Now the Fiery Choker lowers my cold resist but on the other hand the vampire ally has proved somewhat weak so far. Tough choice. Oh, well, found a portal to the surface. Looks like i killed a boss without kowing it. Guess it was one of those flamable mummies.

After visiting a couple of towns i lost the staff of absorption but i have e new dungeon to explore. Hope it's not too hard. It wasn't. Whoah, there's a blue @ following me! Oh, it just wants to chat and give me a scroll. Bah, i'll erad it later, there's still a room to explore. A bunch of portals and an artifact. Bah, it was an orange one. Let's read the scroll. Turns out i have to use the portal to go east.

Now i have to help an elf lady. I'm feeling quite railroaded. Personally elves have cost me far more lives than orcs and i'm inclined to wipe out the elf lady instead. But ok she unlocked a new class for me. OK, i'll let that slide. Look, a new world map. I should take a break.
